Rashes, etc.
Chris, Nanette,I agree. I have a pretty broad A&P and Pathology background in my hours/transcripts. Your clients should always fill out a client intake form, and you should also give them the opportunity to share anything they may have not described in the form. Most people who have any rash or skin eruption do know what it is (have gone to the doctor, etc). Ask them. It may in some cases be a condition that is only locally contraindicated (meaning, you simply do not work that particular area), but in some cases, the cause of a skin condition is systemically contraindicated (meaning the whole body is off limits until the condition is dealt with). Pathology is ALOT of info, but you can always use your Pathology text as a desk reference. If you are ever in doubt, the most responsible thing to do is to ask the client to see their family doctor and reschedule their appointment. Believe me, you will only lose that income from that day. The client will respect that you have the foresight to protect yourself, and all other clients by being very clear as to what conditions are safe and unsafe in the treatment setting. Remember too, that for this very reason, you must wash all linens & towels appropriately. You will learn all of this in school, so don't worry. I think its great that you are so curious and enthusiastic.Jill/Sagetherapist
