I remember one lady came in for treatment and had her own ideas on how I should approach her problem. "That seems to be working but I'm surprised you didn't work on the uneffected side first."
ME: (Suppressing a tired sigh) Yes, reciprocal inhibition can be helpful, but you wanted a short session so I don't think I have time for that. Besides, you know, treating the uneffected side first is only one theory of bodywork."
ME: (Inner dialogue) How about you let me help you with this musculoskeletal issue and when I need help with accounting you can be the expert on that.
UPSHOT: I treated this woman for long time. Then I didn't treat her for a long time. I see her shopping from time to time and she still looks like one of those people who are determined to be unhappy and succeeding. I'm sure she at least has the comfort of knowing she's always right and righteous about everything. If she hadn't gone away I'm sure I would have fired her when I moved into my own practice.

Sorry that wasn't quick...but now I don't have to see my therapist this week.

I'm sure she at least has the comfort of knowing she's always right and righteous about everything. If she hadn't gone away I'm sure I would have fired her when I moved into my own practice.

Wow, Razor, if your practice wasn't in Canada... I'd be pretty sure that she lived at my house up until last week. :

We probably all know people like that, and they're certainly hard to deal with...whether they're clients, friends or family members!

I don't know about you... but sometimes you have to do what's best for your sanity. If it was a client I'd definitely cut them loose!
As for friends, I'm working on trying to surround myself with only upbuilding people. Hopefully a true friend would respect that need.
As for family members... how does that saying go? Absence makes the heart grow fonder? :
