ummm[sm=scratchchin.gif] a contra action is something that happens during or after the treatment as a result of what you are doing (different to contra indications which are things present before the treatment which may stop you from doing the treatment)
expected - skin redness, feeling 'hung over' that evening or the next day (the body's clearing out toxins), feeling lethargic (you've relaxed them!), etc, etc
unexpected - skin reaction to the oil you've used (eg. allergy), inflammation of the hair follicles, eg, if you've rubbed very hard, bruising (again if you've rubbed very hard), somewhere else in the body that wasn't the initial complaint now hurts (this is perfectly normal as the body "rights" itself), client faints, etc, etc (long list as they're all unexpected, so you have to use your imagination a bit )
by the way, it's "contra"
hope that helps... basically, the expected ones are typical 'side effects' of massage - you might talk about them to the client as part of your after care advice (or write them on a hand out for them), so that they don't come as a surprise to them and they know how to minimise (eg. drink lots of water and rest). The unexpected ones are ones which aremuch less common, but you should be aware of might happen, or they could be total surprise reactions.
