Question about introducing a kitty to a cat?

My cat is 10, male. We've had him for 9 years, so this is his house. Yesterday I got a 8 week old girl. I kept her in my room away from the boy cat. She's settled ok. I gave the boy cat a blanket of hers, he sniffed and since he hasn't been bothered by the smell. He seems happy. This morning I got them both to the door on opposite sides, she hissed a little but the boy cat purred.

I'm wondering what to do next, because the kitten stopped hissing and was alright after a while. Do I keep letting them see each other through the door? And what after that?

I think you should continue your way of slow introduction. and getting them used to each others smells. the other cat most likely hissed because of their very different smells. they release marking scent from around the chin and under the ears so perhaps if you pet each of them under the chin for a few moments and change back and forth between the both of em, so that you really release and combine their smells. it should create a more familiar bond rather than the intruder feeling they most likely get from not recognizing the smell.

also this trick worked when i had my kitties. in a very supervised environment place the cats where they can see each other but not easily reach. giving them enough space to feel safe and able to flee for cover. perhaps a good degree of separation. they will probably still hiss when they get to close for comfort but that should past after the first week. remove from sight at the first sign of aggression and retry later when they forget about it. (cats don't usually hold long grudges IMO).

once they've begun grooming each other you are in the home stretch as they are making their scents combine.

Just put them both in the same room and let them get to know each other, that is the best way for them to get along.

Just let them be. In 4 days they will be playing with each other.
