Purchasing Oils

Hi

I am part way throught my swedish body massage course and was wondering if anyone could tell me where I could purchase oils for using at home to practice with.

I use Amphora Aromatics... (have a peek in google) if you do a search in the Aromatherapy section there's loads of info in there from people with the exact same question and heaps of links to good suppliers. At work atm so trying to not look like I am spending all day browsing..

I use essential oils, no problems to date...

Hey Kit, welcome to HP and welcome to the wonderful and amazing world of Massage.

When you ask about Oils are you referring to Essential Oils or the base oil to massage with? If its the base oil when I started I actually used Organic Sunflower Oil from my local supermarket. If it is safe and good enough to eat then it is also safe enough to apply to the skin.

I,ve passed my ITEC holistic massage in october, we were told to use good sun flower or grapeseed oil for massage(I bought it from my local super market) by our tutors.

Hi Everyone

Thank you for your advice. I wasn't too sure about using oil from the supermarket but perhaps I will give it a go. I am only using carrier oils at the moment as I haven't learnt about essential oils yet but may look at that if I pass the Swedish Body Massage Course.

Hiya Kit.
I have no experience with oil but thought that I would let you know what I have been using over the last 5 years so as you might want to try and experiement with whats available to find something that suits you.

I use Biotone massage lotion and creams. There are many types available from different companies and all can be mixed with essential oils too.

Biotone is provided by the Massage Table store and also Russell Medical, both found on the net.

Oils, dependant on what types, sometimes stain the drapes you use unless you buy products to eliminate that in the wash... or of course use diposable paper roll..
I worked at a clinic once where all the therapists used oils and no one seemed to clean up properly and even the door handles were covered in oil... as for the sheets and pillows!!!!!

Biotone is water based and washes out very easily lewaving no stains

Just thought I would throw that in to the conversatiopn so as you know of other stuff that is available, however if the course work is taught using oil then you would probably need to go with what they are working with.
