Pregnancy Massage - Inducing Labor

I suppose this won't get a reply in time, but I have a new client who is coming in today. She scheduled her session last night. She is 40 weeks and put in the notes when she scheduled that she would like to try to naturally induce during her massage.

I guess I am just trying to figure out how I feel about it. I know what accupressure points to use, what essential oils to use... but I've never actually TRIED to induce labor for someone (other than myself). So, any feedback or advice you guys have would be wonderful!

The acupressure points and essential oils will certainly help things along IF her body is ready to go into labor. Just so the client isn't disappointed if nothing happens after the massage, I'd let her know that what her body is doing hormonally will trump what you're doing in the massage but perhaps you can "nudge" things along.

At 40 weeks there's no harm in trying to help things along.

for getting things moving !

A little unconventional but when I was 42 weeks pregnant with my first I went for a 3-4 mile walk/hike and came home in labor. I had been walking regularly during my pregnancy which was the only way I managed to make it that far.

Just an FYI: Be very careful recommending this option. Cod liver oil is a laxative, and can have a laxative effect on the baby while still in utero. Swallowing meconium is a common cause of cerebral palsy, and not worth the risk just to get the birth over with.

Rose of Sharon - I agree on the cod liver oil. Actually, I haven't talked to her since her session, but I will send her an email now. Hopefully the baby has made his/her appearance!

There was a nurse I worked with ( tiny woman) who was so uncomfortable nearing her 40th week she wanted to go int o labor N O W !
I sat her down, put a pillow on my lap and after telling her about pressure points and labor she said " GO FOR IT!!".
Nothing, nada, nill. Her body simply wasn't ready.
Someone posted above about waling. Another nurse I work with (must be in the water) walked laps around our department the day before she gave birth. Walking helps.
