Phantom pain (loss of left arm)

Hello everyone

I have a new client that wants to have reflexology to see if it will help her with pain.

She lost her left arm in a car accident 9 yrs ago (above the elbow) and experiences pain which hse says is awful, she also has trouble sleeping because of the pain, he doctor says there isn't anything she can have for the pain and she wants reflexology to see if it will help, my question is what reflexes will i work on to help her with maximum effect, she is so lovely, she sews and does alot of craft work I just feel I would really like to make a difference and help her sleep.

I have only been qualified since Dec last year and haven't got many clients so any advice would be very appreciated.

Hi,

I work with people who have had amputations. The phantom pains are excruciating at times and very difficult to control so I really feel for your client.

The trouble with amputations, whether elective or by accident, is that the brain still thinks the limb is there! I feel her body needs balancing and that reflexology will be excellent.

As for the reflexes you should treat her as though the arm is still there, effectively treating the areas of pain. All body systems, except perhaps the reproductive system(?), would be affected by this pain. So, give a full relaxing treatment and monitor the reactions.

Thanks very much for your help, I was totally lost!

I don't live in Devon anymore, I must change my profile, I live in Gloucestershire now, getting ready to flood again this summer!!!

My client says she is in soooooooooo much pain, I really do feel for her, she is also on lots of medication, I have only spoken to her over the phone and have arranged an appointment for next Tuesday morning, she is still under specialist doctor and feel that I need to have doctor/specialist approval before anything do you agree? she wants me to go ahead anyway but I have explained that I won't just give her treatment without doctors approval - she is a little annoyed and don't see why not!

I actually don't see why you should need a doctor's OK to treat this client. The condition is lifelong but it's not a developing condition. Yes I think reflexology will help as it should rebalance the energies. As to what areas to try, definitely the brain/spinal cord on the side affected, as this is the source of the pain.

I've just done a Reiki 2 attunement /healing session, and my guides told me during the course of the session that any physical trauma will affect both the aura and the chakra relevant to that area. I wonder if an energy therapy such as Reiki would help? Reflexology is, I feel, a good start.

Hi Sue,

I agree with Chris. There really is no reason to get medical approval. The treatment from the medical profession is obviously not alleviating her pain and it is her choice to go for something else to help. Reiki would be good as well.

I am a reflexologist though I do not have many clients at present. Just starting though I qualified last year.

Combination of Reflexology & Reiki will help her relax and calm down and will gradually help her in pain. I had clients who had similar problems and did help.

I'm not a reflexologist or a Reiki practitioner, but I just thought you may find it interesting to know that Kirlian photography (aura photography) of people with missing limbs shows the limb still there in energy form. The energy body is still whole, but would need healing - as Chris mentioned her guides saying about physical trauma affecting the aura and chakra.

My hubby had his leg amputated from the knee down,incidently caused through Gangrene from Diabetes.
He often remarked that he could actually feel his foot as if it were still there. But luckily,he never complained of much pain.

I have a slightly different view with regards to phantom pain. I actually believe it is due to trauma in the energy field where the amputation took place. The fine strands of energy have been traumatised and have not energetically re-balanced.

The sensation of still sensing the limb is because the etheric energetic structure is still there, so energetically the outline of the arm or leg will still exist.

I have an essence that I use for animals to help repair the energetic damage that is done when they have an amputation, it has never been used on humans though as I still need to do a piece of work on where to apply the essence but I have a feeling that if the etheric field was healed of its trauma, that the pain would diminish.

i would love to hear more on this topic, my husband is parialyised down his right arm. He still has his arm but suffers with the most awful pain,so he has trouble sleeping and this phantom pain controls his life.
I am a reflexologist and am very intrsted if anyone knows of anything where reflexology may help. i am always trying.

Your body is linked with your aura.
The body is a physical expression of the aura.
If you rather like the body is the glimpse we can have on the aura.

When we are happy and healthy all energies levels are fine and everything is fine.
When unbalanced start it shows first in the body.
This give us a chance to rebalance it before it seetlle too deep and damage the aura.

When you remove any part of the body you remove something physical...but the aura, the energic part is still there...cut for the body but still there.
The cut is painfull.
Any cut is painfull was it on the body or the aura.
To remove the pain of a body part who is not there anymore you have to work on the energic level.

That the only remainning access which can help you to ease the pain.

When the physical is damage you work on the physical if you can access it.
If there is no more access to the physical you can only go to the next level:the energetic one.

All therapies working on the subtlle / energitical level can help you helping her.

Actually the imbalance can first be seen within the aura/energy system. The body is the last place it manifests.



I would say that one should work on a physical and energetic level simultaneously.

Absolutely. Everything always first manifests on an energy level before manifesting in the physical world (including our bodies). If you are aware of the energy level, you can heal there prior to anything appearing in physical form.

What I have try to say is:
"Shows" is being visible with eyes.

Umblalanced start on the energetic/ etheric level but the first visible signs are on the body.
Visible does not mean sensible neither first to occur.

When I mean visible this visible is the perceptible level for people with no special/extra sensibility to the energic level.

Hello everyone and thank you for your interesting replies.

I have been away so only just realised how many of you kindly helped!

My lady cancelled in the end, she felt reflexology wasn't for her in the end (even though she hasn't had it before), I felt she just wanted some company to be honest, I called to confirm the evening before and she said that her doctor would not recommend any kind of comp therapy as it doesn't work!!!!!

She said I won't have a treatment, I asked if she has ever had any kind of holistic or comp therapy before she said she had massage but it made her feel in more pain, I said if she changes her mind please do call and we can sit down and discuss everything.

I didn't want to continue without doctors approval as she is on medication for depression and blood thining so felt I couldn't continue with a treatment until I was happy about her condition, I also felt that she wasn't fully open about certain things as she changed her story 4 times in a 10 minute conversation.

All in all, I hope she finds something that will help her through this pain, I will also be on hand is she does want to discuss any treatments in the future, I am a BTEC Massage Therapist and Reflexologist, I love reflexology more though, it is amazing, I find it hard when people dismiss what we do as no good!!!!!!!!!!!
