Paying with debit card

After a last-minute meeting cancellation, I decided at the spur of the moment to fill up the time with a visit to one of the more reputable MPs. When it was too late, I suddenly realized that I had no cash and had to pay with my debit card.
Maybe I am being paranoid, but I am nervous of having a link to my real life with this transaction. Has anybody had negative experiences with paying via debit or credit cards? Would also welcome comments from MP owners.

Wifey actually checked where the charge was from and discovered it Healing Hands Spa. Lucky for me it wasn't Naked Chicks Spa or I'd be a dead man. This happened a few years ago.

Now it's cash or nothing. Trails invite trouble. Got enough of that, thank you.

With some banks, it isn't even necessary to call for info; the info about where the charge was incurred appears on the statement and can be seen if one looks at the account on the internet. If where the charge is incurred is going to cause problems with someone who has access to the bank statements (ie, a significant other) then it's better to use cash. Easier to explain withdrawals at an ATM than debits at an MP!

Got to watch that trail. I remember reading somewhere that cheating men are most commonly caught though undeleted emails, credit card/bank statements, the redial on the phone, and going to places where they can be seen by friends of the wife. Ask what the charge appears as before you swipe. For your eyes only (SC) appears as "the downtown eatery" which you can explain. Hey we all have to eat!
I have two credit cards. One for everyday stuff and another for on-the-sly stuff. The on-the-sly statement gets sent to my office not my home. I explain the statement going to my office by saying that I don't want her seeing the statement around her birthday or Christmas so that presents stay a surprise. She buys it.
I also have a seperate bank account (my fun money) that I funnel money into as well. I keep the debit card and bankbook at the office also.
Another golden rule is to shred all incriminating statements and receipts.
I think that I would have a great career in money laundering come to think of it. Hope this helps.

Since I started seeing my significant other, I've only used cash. Had only one problem with a credit card at an MP. The MP put the charge through on my card 3 months after I had been there. I thought I had been double-charged - however, I called the MP and asked to speak to the manager. To the MP's credit, the manager professionally handled my concerns and demonstrated that I was not billed twice.

It has also been my experience that MPA's generally do not prefer extra charges being billed on a credit card or Interac as managers and owners may track and question the charges that are being put through.

Finally, I have a little trick that I use with a credit card. I often have difficulty walking out of an MP if I do not see an MPA to my liking or if one of my regulars is not there. If I don't see an MPA that I want to spend time with, my first question is whether the MP takes credit cards. If they say no then it's an easy exit for me. If they say yes they do, I hand over a recently expired credit card that I know won't be accepted. When the card doesn't work, I give a blank "I don't know" stare and can make an easy exit that way.

Those things always come back to bite you in the ass. How the heck can you go to a MP without checking for cash in the first place? Petes sake,,,

I purchased a gift for a friend (girl) once and forgot the reciept in my pocket. Wife was

If you are hiding this hobby from your spouse and want to make sure nothing pops up then use cash.

I personally use my debit and credit cards where I want to, but my wife never sees my bank statements or my email. I use an evidence eliminator software program on my computers to make sure nothing cames back on me.

None of her business. I don't see hers either. We have a joint account we transfer money into to pay for shared assests and bills.

Works great.

I am single and it's cash on the barell for me.

Only once in my life about 2 years ago did i use a credit card (at allure) because i just forgot that i didn't have enough cash on me.

Ever since then, cash is king.

One point to watch on debit (not just at MPs but anywhere) - scams now common where your debit card is scanned a 2nd time on the sly through a "scanner" that records the info to be put on a dummy card. The cashier watches you enter the PIN, and voila, they have your debit and full access - recent scam in Alberta exceeded $100,000 !!!!
