Oils to aid skin healing- scars due to self cutting

Can anyone tell me if there are any recommended oils that can help heal scars caused by self-cutting?

My daughter has been doing this (with a razor) since February and whilst those cuts on her hands and feet are healing, the ones on her thighs are quite bad.

There are some but off the top of my head i'm not too sure but someone will probably give you some ideas. However i do know Bio oil is supposed to be good. You can buy it from most supermarkets and chemists. There is a formula on materia aromatica that is made for scar tissue and i know a guy who used it after he had heart surgery said it worked wonders on his chest. Hope this helps.

The following essential oils are good to heal scars are Mandarin (base note) Carrot Seed (middle note) and Frankincense, sandalwood, patchouli and vetiver (top notes). Rose hip oil is a good carrier for scars and wounds, mullein flower is good for wounds, and sweet almond oil contains vitamin E as well as other vitamins as do Sunflower oil and wheatgerm oil.

She could rub vitamin E capsules on her scar 3 times a day. There is also an over the counter medicine called Mederma. Vitamen E, evening primrose, applied on the scars should help, you can just buy the capsules you take and cut one open and rub on the scars (and take them internally too if you want).

Everlasting/imortelle Helichrysum Italicumessential oil would be the best EO, but it's pricey, so not easily found. Emotionally it is is supportive and comforting, so would probably be of use with your daughter on that level too With essential oils, it's not worth looking for bargins, it usually means they are adulterated, or a synthetic copy, everlasting is usually around the same price as jasmine. You may be able to find everlasting in a base of jojoba or rose hip oil at a 2.5% concentration, you can use that as is on the scars (with or without theVit E and Evening Primrose capsules), that will probably be the easiest way to apply it.

Frankincense and sandalwood will also help on an emotional level as well as working on the scars.


I hope your daughter can come through this quickly, it's not an easy process.

Myrrh is a good one too.
Add some chamomile and lavender.
Put all 3 in equal proportions in a small amount of vodka (5ml) then add to afloral water (EG Rosewater). Use as a cool compress to the area.
Look into the reasons for the behaviour - Frankincense and Neroli can dispense with the past and make the future seem brighter - perhaps use in the bath.

Remember yourself too, this must be distressing for all concerned.

When I read your post I recalled a conversation I had with the suppliers that I use and they recommended Seabuckthorn Oil for repairing scar tissue.
