Oils and animals

This may be a silly question but is it safe to use essential oils on animals?

Let me explain - I have a beautiful golden retriever called Chloe. She has a long, thick coat and sometimes smells rather too doggy!!! I don't like to keep bathing her as this isnt good for the natural oils in her coat.

Your advice would be really appreciated!

yes it is ok to use oils,you would only need to use small amounts in a lot of dilutant to moisten coat or freshen bed.You would also do well by letting them have a little sniff of it to make sure it is for then ,after all we all have our tastes in pefume!

Thanks for that! She is a very girlie dog as she loves freshly washed blankets in her bed and gets very excited when she sees a fresh one appear!

Could I use lavender? It smells lovely and I understand it has antiseptic properties too.

Yes you can...but like i said sit away from her and hold the bottle out to her for her to come and see if she likes it.As im sure you know...dogs have an excellent nose and can easily be over powered by essential oils due to their potancy.Try her if she is a girly dog im sure she will like lavender.I f she does not try another she will sniff away if its the oil for her and her needs!
