no sensitivity with Reflexology

Im new to this sight,great advice for training Reflexologists,I have a case study who has many problems but failed to feel my hands on his feet,my pressure is always felt by other clients.Is this a low vitality?,will it improve with further treatments

I just thought it is worth mentioning there is a whole lot of complaints on the web about the use of crestor.

I have a client with lots of yellowing over lung and chest areas.She does not smoke or in a passive smoke situation.Shas has no chest or related illnesses or problems,Could I presume it may be grief related?,I have not pryed too much as its only my first reatment with this client.She is not on any medication but has a hysterectomy in 1999 and has pos.could someone please advice me on this.

it was interesting to read that some people on the web complaint that they think that one of the side effects of crestor is shoulder pain and your client get monthly injections for shoulder pain. I know we cannot do anything about the medication they are using so if you go on treating maybe after the 6th treatment the circulation will improve and his sensitivity be normalized. I don't know whether it will be ethical to tell your client to read up about what other users say about the side effects of crestor.

With regard to Crestor (I went to type creosote then ) there is absolutely nothing wrong with suggesting that your client look up information about their medication. You could even tell them that you read somewhere that shoulder pain was reported by people taking it. You're not telling them to stop taking it, merely to be informed about what they're taking. And if it's a widely reported side effect then he and his doctor need to have a chat about taking medication for the side effects of medication.

It may be worth you doing a sensitivity test on the clients feet with sharp and soft to check whether they can feel anything, as it is not recommended to give reflexology to someone who has impaired feeling in their feet.

This can be done by pressing the area with something sharp, such as the end of a pen and something soft, such as cotton wool. if they can't feel the difference or anything at all I would try offering an alternative treatment such as hand reflexology as they won't be able to tell if you are pressing too hard on the feet and causing damage.

Really? Didn't know that. I'm treating a couple of paraplegics and a woman with MS at the moment. I was never made aware that impaired sensitivity was a cautionary (it's not on the AoR's list) or I wouldn't have treated any of them.

The really interesting thing about treating people with paraplegia is that they can't feel what you're doing to their feet but they can feel it in their body. So to all the people who say reflexology doesn't do anything.

Regarding the sensitivity, double check whether or not they are diabetic as this can affect sensitivity.

Regarding the yellowing, I have yellowing over my lung areas plus hard skin on zone 2 down each lung area. I don't have any lung disorder or smoke though. However, I do lots of running - perhaps worth asking client about the exercise they do, particularly if aeorobic. I don't put the skin hardness down to any imbalance in that area - just purely to do with my footwear and pounding the streets. Admittedly I also don't drink enough water and too much coffee and this can make a difference to the colouring.

So, don't always assume an imbalance/colouring etc etc means an illness - look at the whole lifestyle of the client.

No I Checked for diabetis.I did try connecting to his aura and felt nothing ,which made me think his vital energy was low.

As regards yellowing yes she has taken up lots of exercise rather suddenly and has not been consuming much water,I can feel all the tarsals and metatarsals on her feet in that area,she said she feels that her bones are rubbing the ground unless she wears footwear with good insoles.Perhaps I should do hand treatments.She aslo has and extra cervical vertebrae,this should not make a difference,Im sure.

As this is only my third case study ,Im aware of being cautious but find it interesting and a great learning experience.

You will feel some of the bones in the feet, that's natural. Sounds like she needs some good cushioned shoes, not necessarily insoles. If she is running, check that she has the right shoes and if necessary suggest she should go for a gait analysis at her local running shop.

IMO, I don't think it's necessary to do hand treatments. Foot treatments are fine. Interesting that she has 8 cervical vertebrae, but shouldn't make too much of a difference (unless you go on to do spinal reflexology, but I won't confuse you with that now).

Good luck with your case studies. It's through these that you'll do the most learning.

Speaking of case studies, when I was studying I decided that it was all very well using family and friends but, for the most part, what I'd get was healthy people. So I put a poster up in the doctor's waiting room, asking for volunteers for free treatments, stipulating that I was a student doing case studies. My GP even offered to help me by giving me advice over the phone if I was concerned by anything at any point. I got people with bi-polar disorder, musculo-skeletal problems, a variety of stress-related and addictive behaviour disorders and one woman in her 30s with Cystic Fybrosis! It was an interesting couple of months, that's for sure

Thats exactly what I did,I was going nowhere with my family.My other half would want to be on couch,remote control and all,my daughter had to have her mobile.
this way its taken more seriously.

Funnily enough hubby was one of my case studies, and yes wanted TVon with remote too! For the first 4 treatments he had NO sensitivity whatsoever. then gradually the sensitivities I was expecting started to emerge.
I think he was not convinced by refelxology and just closed his mind to the benefits ,I think it wasnt untill he began to feel what it could do for him he allowed himself to believe in it!

Hi, my hubby is the same. I wouldn't choose him as a case study second time around. Although, he became more sensitive around the fourth treatment and listened to advice for getting to sleep, as he was having broken sleep. He doesn't really believe in the benefits of reflexology or doctors.
