Newby Aromatherapist - Lexicon or not?

Hi all,

I've recently completed a course in aromatherapy having practiced massage for several years, I thought it would be a great add on.

I still lack confidence somewhat in selecting oils in good time, and find myself getting a mental block! I recently came across a Lexicon - essential refence guide. I just wondered if it would look unprofessional referring to this in practice. Is it ok to refer to my personal note book of recipes?

I would really appreciate and welcome any advice given.

I usually ask people when they book an apt what issues are bringing them to me and explain that I can be better prepared if I know in advance. It works for me as I am mobile and people understand I cant bring every oil I have so I wld only take the ones relevent to what they tell me and let them choose from those at th session, which means you have time to research if you need to

Hi Aroma
When I worked in clinic I had a file of client info, notes from sessions & details of what oils I used each time & would refer to it when people arrived. You can also keep details of personal information such as birthdays, childrens' names etc - handy if you don't see people often or have a poor memory.

I think it's ok for a therapist to take a peek in a file or recipe book to check a blend. Choosing oils does get easier with time. After a while you start to see repeat clients /similar conditions/contra indications and I have favourite oils/blends for common complaints.

Although I did go through a phase of using Lavender in every blend but I'm over that now!

Yes definitely use a lexicon and any other book (or bible) I like to show my clients the lexicon as it helps them understand.

I refer to my own handwritten cards, and my clients usually like to hear about what each oil is good for.
