new student need some help

hello , i just started medical massage school and i have to buy a portable table for home use, and i have read so much about tables and i think my brain is turning to mush, lol, i want a good table, not to cheap and not too pricey and have no clue where to start. can you give some suggestions, i was looking at oakworks tables, either the nova or the kela, or any suggestions anyone could make i would appreciate any help

There are great deals online at eBay, etc ~ unfortunately when buying online there is S&H to add in to the cost. I bought an old wooden massage chair for $50 on eBay, but the true shipping cost was over $150! Not that $200 wasn't a good price on a "vineforum.xxxe" chair, but it was a shock at the time, lol!

i was also so glad when i found this forum. i'm 1/2way through school now and this forum is invaluable for further learning and interaction that just can't be provided in a school setting. i spend hours on here, just reading and researching. most of the time the information is FAR above my head, but that's ok. every day i learn something new from here. good luck!

I was in your place a year ago next month(I'm in ohio too, ~waves~)

I found this forum to be very helpfull in getting the dirt on tables I had 3 I was going between and am very happy with the choice I made. I ended up getting an Oakworks Aurora and I love it. It was the pricest of those I was considering, but I was really drawn to it and decided to go ahead and be assured I had a quality table.

Also, I got mine from massage warehouse. It was cheaper than on the oakworks website plus if you call your order in and tell them your a student you will get even more of a discount. Very worthwhile and the service was great. I got a bunch of free stuff too like an oil holster and a flannel sheet set. I've gotta get me a chair before I'm done with school so I can get that discount still, I'll be done in april, squee!!

Hey there,
you will need to figure out three main things for yourself first:
Width of table, wider tables are better for larger clients and modalities where you have to move them around, but more difficult for a shorter person to use.
Materials, aluminum is usually a bit lighter, but some don't like the look, and some aluminum tables make a little more noise than their wooden counterparts.
Finally budget, you get what you pay for, however there are so many cheap tables now that are of fair quality that they are fine for some people, problem is usually once again weight.

Cheap, strong and light, you only get to pick two.

Hi & Welcome to our forum, Hopeful ! You'll find all sorts of great resources here among our members & have fun all at the same time

Keep in mind with whatever table you choose that you can customize it, with the addition of twin sized eggcrate or memory foam type pads, a table heater & sheepskin pads as well (I have all of these on my table!). Those extra layers make for a more pampered experience for your clients, as they can sink down in a bit, & feel more relaxed in the process. For the elderly, or thinner clients, it also allows any bony regions to have the cushioning they really need too.

One item I found really helpful was a special non-slip rubberized type of topper to put between the table and any additional layers, so it didn't all go slipping off to the side once my sheets were on!

Welcome Hopeful! I'm a student, too so know the "mush" brain feeling - so much information coming at you so fast!

I got the Oakworks One table from BodyworksMall. Less expensive than Massage Warehouse, excellent customer service!

I love my table - I got the fuller cushion and people NEVER want to get off the table! LOL!!!
