Hi Kay,I don't know about the school specifically, but might suggest you check the AMTA website. They list accredited schools ( although if this is a new school, they might not have been around long enough to get accreditation). You might try posting this request in the "Schools and cirriculum" area also.Good luck and welcome!

I have not heard of this school.  I would be VERY CAREFUL when choosing a school in NJ these days, as it looks as if state certification is going to be mandatory in the not too distant future.   You do not want to spend all the time and money for school and then find out that you cannot be certified by the state.If it is a new school, it may very well have applied for accredidation with COMTA and NCBTMB, but I personally would enroll in a school that is already accredited and has been in business for a while.  Not only will you have the comfort of knowing that you will qualify for certification if it becomes mandatory, or even if you want to volunteer to be certified if it does not become mandatory, but attending an already established school will give you the benefit of learning from people who have already worked out some of the "bugs" in the curriculum and daily business of doing something new.

Hi Kay,I did a google search on them and found their website.  They say they have been around since 1990 and are COMTA accredited and AMTA certified.  I would still check this out with each of these organizations.  It seemed a little expensive to me but I live on the other side of the US and maybe $13,000.00 is normal for massage school back east.  Mine was a 12 month program and was around $6,500.00.Have you met with them for a tour of the school?  What did you get a sense of from them?  Also as pointed out by the previous poster the state certification is important to keep up on as to what is going on there.  Keep us posted on what you find out and if you have anymore ?'s   Diane

Just tossing in here that I paid that much for a 2-year program on the east coast, so the price doesn't seem out of the realm of possibilities.

merlecuz,  Did you pay $13,000.00 each year or for the whole two years.  Academy of Massage Therapy is just for one year.

I am going to graduate from Health Enrichment Center in Lapeer, MI this sunday, and I just wanted to say that this was the most amzing experience I think I have ever had in all my life.  It was a six month course, and I learned more in the past six months that I did in the past six years Honestly!!!  HEC is so thorough in its training that I have all the confidence in the world to do whatever I want to do.  From scientific reasoning to pathology to clinicals to techniques, the whole nine yards.  Im happy to say that Im going to be taking advanced classes there, and I absolutely cannot wait.

I've heard of it, but haven't heard much about it.  A friend of mine is going there but he hasn't said much about it and when I ask he doesn't seem to want to talk... which I find odd.  Thier program also seems a bit long to me, my program was a little over 6 months including breaks and theirs looks to be 8.5 months.  And I am assuming that you are going to be taking the NY/professionals portion, that was another additional 4 months.I went to Healing Hands Institue in Westwood.  I would suggest also looking at that school, I am very happy with my education and experience.  This is their website:  http://www.healinghandsinstitute.com/abouthhi.htm

If it's double that, they must have satin sheets and spa accomodations for the students!

well i go to the cittone institute and its not bad its 5 hour day monday to friday and its a 6month course i just finish my first class with a 4.0 its 12 day class the tuition is $8000 and they give u a table blankets lotion everything

The program that I took at HEC was 6 months. thats it.  I am only electing to take advanced pratitioner classes.  But after the 6 month class  I can say that I would be most competant in any area that I wish to go into... A great great great learning experience

I honestly don't know why he doesn't want to talk about school.  I mainly wanted to express to him that if he wanted any help to come to me, since I was already working in the field and graduated top in my class.  By the way, what part of NY do you live in?  Just make sure that they fullfil the requirements for the NY license.

its not the ny state license its only 600 hours but i have to go somewere else to get the rest of my hours for a ny state license

Gomez -What does HEC stand for?  Is that Helma?I made sure that when I was looking at schools that it had what I needed to practice and pass my licensing exam in NY without having to change.And yes, it is standard to have to purchase your table.  It usually isn't included in the tuition.
