Need some advise please

Hi

I am studying VTCT Swedish Body Massage at my local College and I am also doing the Hot Stone Massage there.

I have passed 2 assessments and have one more to do before I am qualified. Not long now.

I was offered £6 per massage in a wellbeing-centre if I do massages there as a therapist. I know this isn't much and I am wondering if I am under selling the massage if I agree to that. I feel it is worth more than that but I also think that the experience will do me good and that it may lead to something in the future.

I also have another part-time job which I am not keen on and I was hopeing to take the massages further and eventually working for myself.

I need some advise from you all on this forum.Do you think I should do it for the experience?

All advise would be apreciated.

Personally I think when you first star out, the chance to gain experience in the beginning is invaluable, paid or unpaid. I did a similar thing and although the money was rubbish, I gained so much experience in six months it was really worth while. I had clients from all backgrounds and all different ages, shapes & sizes. It was definitely worth it. I suppose though it depends how busy you will be, if it's just the odd one here and there it won't work quite as well.

You can get menial work that pays more than that. I'd get back to them and ask for 9 quid and you'll take it. Even at nine quid you'd be cheap. IMO. Although bear in mind, I've got no idea what I'm talking about.

I hate giving advise ... but they are both right in their own way and little worlds !! this is your start so if I was you i`d take it for a time, if it does not work then find another place to work but dont get upset if you start at a low rate. I have been training beauty therapists for over 10 years and found they all start with nerves, you dont want to ask £20 for 30minutes and the client not feel he or she has spent good money on a bad thing !!
