My school and the board are fighting.....

Oh boy.......  just looking for some advice......  I graduated my school in feb. the loan i pulled out was supposed to have covered the cost of my test, but i had pulled out a little extra also.  So when I turn in my paperwork to the school, the finiancial advisor told me i still had to pay because i got my overage check in december.  thing is, she never said that my test money was included in my check.  so naturally, i spent it. (it was on rent.  by then i was 2 months past due)  bless my aunt's heart, for my grad present, she paid for my test.  yay!  2 weeks later, i get a return amount on my bank statement from the board.   woah.  called them immediately, and they said i had paid twice, and that i was ok.  so i believed them.  went took my test, passed first time, thought i was all skippy.  to make an already long story a little shorter, my school had sent someone elses check in with my paperwork.  School says it's not their fault, board says it is, this has been going on for 3 MONTHS!!!!!!  I can't get my license till it's all figured out.  grrr!  does anyone have any suggestions for me?  This is not the first time someone's had trouble with this school and how they run things.  I'm at my wit's end! :-X

I'm going to assume you are speaking of a state board.  Maybe I'm missing something here but it sounds to me that -- regardless of the school's error -- you still owe the board money for the test.   You paid, the board refunded the money and now they want their money back.  If it were me, I would call the state board's office and find out if you owe them money for the test.  If you do, arrange payment and arrange for them to deal directly with you (make sure they have your correct address and phone number) and the not the school -- since you have graduated.   If the person who answers the phone isn't able to help you -- ask to speak to the next higher up in the food chain.  If that doesn't work...call the Secretary of State's office and ask for the phone number of the person who oversees your state board -- then call that person and request assistance from them.  Most state boards have to take care of things like this in a "timely manner" and it is usually written into the regulations that set up the board.I can understand your frustration!  There is absolutely no reason this should take 3 months to straighten out.

oh how I wish it was only the state board i was dealing with.  nope, it's the national board.  I also understand that as it is now, i have taken my test for free, and believe me, if i had the money right now to fix it, i would!  My job has cut back my hours, and I'm in the process of trying to find another job.  There are a lot of details i left out of my story, including that the national board is talking about revoking the school's testing codes.  My school won't return either the board's or my calls, and now it looks like i get to get my lawyer involved.  It's just a big mess.............. :'(
