My first reflexology baby!

Got to share, my first pregnant client had her baby on Saturday. She had a totally brilliant pregnancy but a not quite so good birth, but hey you can't have everything . It's a very nice feeling to know you helped someone through such a life changing episode as a pregnancy. I can't wait to meet her new son!

when i did my first priming, the mum rang me 2 days later to say she had delivered the evening of the treatment... makes you feel quite special )

How lovely Siobhan. The labour might have been worse if she hadn't had the benefit of reflexology.

I hope she does let you meet the baby. I treated a lady from week 32 - 40 and she didn't contact me after the birth, despite sending her a voucher for a free treatment. Still, I suppose thats the difference between friendship and a professional relationship. She was very happy with her treatments at the time, so I was a bit miffed.

I have a lady who is 40 weeks, she's coming this morning, 9.15am-
her waters have already broken last night & the hospital sent her home as she wasnt inlabour - this morning we're going to energise all systems for go !!
She really wants to avoid if poss - induction , she would ike me if possible to be with
her & assist any way i can during the labour - we'll have to see what happens today
Cant wait , i have another client 38 weeks, - its sooo exciting.

my guess - you will hear from that lady again - its just the new baby doesnt give the Mums as much time as they thought they'd have & I bet every day she will cherish having that voucher & what promises shew will make herself, what a lifeline !! Then one day soon if/when she really really needs it or fancies it - you'll be the firt person she will call,
meanwhile she will perhaps be adjusting & not yet realising that she too needs time out - but having been there - got that t shirt - like many Mums - it takes a huge many years to discover you can be a Mum & have time for yourself !!
So just an ickle reminder - its her stuff - not yours - you DID a great job, did have a great relationship - she will be soo thankful for those happy times & memories & perhaps will long to return - when the time feels right for her . Please dont be miffed - celebrate - you did a great job - maybe you can think - okay next - I'm ready . . !!

jan, priming or energising... shouldnt be done before 38 weeks and supposedly not without obstetric carer's permission... however, if baby is not ready to come, i dont believe we can do harm.

so vigorous treatment to shake things up really! particularly in the pelvic zones... along with some acu points. then nice soothing foot massages and endocrine balancing... all set!

aaah Rosie - she's in labour - she hasnt made it to appointment
she must be in delivery room right now - as I've had no phonecalls or anything explaining why she hasnt arrived - ooh god it just goes to show the emotion behind - susanne said prepare & work through emotion - as soon as it dawned on me she wasn't late for app - she wasnt coming for app - ie. she is in delivery suite !!
i felt soo emotional- whoa - big lessonm to learn there - or do you think professional touch/approach would just instinctively be paramount & present
- only because she's not here is the emotional bit allowed to flow !!
I'm soo excited for her - I did think - are you sure ? when she rang last night
to say waters had broken - i thought she may wake up in labour through the night - but booked her anyway as that was what she rang for - reassurance perhaps, plan B in place incase she didnt ! aaah I'll let you know the outcome . . .
be interesting - her heels when put together there didnt seem much space
i tried gently to include & up the pelvic stretch last few app's - ooh owch i recall the pain ! Yikes . .

hmmmn i did say she could ring me but she said she wouldn't disturb my family if it was some outrageous hour to call - in one way rosie i am relieved, think i may have not been as prepared as i perhaps shouldve been - i couldnt believe how emotional i could feel thinking - ooh shes in labour RIGHT NOW what a softie pud

Well done. I am a midwife and find women who hae reflexology much better at labour, More relaxed unfortunatly not enough women do have it. I am also a reflexologist and treat them during labour when I can. Someimes i is difficult being the midwife and reflexologist at the same time.
It certainly keeps them from needing any augmentation with hormones.

aaah they have an 8lb 4oz ( i think 4oz ) ickle girl ( 1st baby )
- born as Mum had hoped /wished - via water birth -
with no problems at 12.15 today, she went into labour
early this morning - both Mum & baby are well & Daddy
sounded proud . . . yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Like Siobahan - just soo delighted to share part of the journey
& hopefully assist in any way possible - me too can't wait to
meet the new ickle soul

I think most Midwives nowadawys are wiling to accept any kind of alternative therapy the women wants to have during labour. anything that will help and hopefully keep the women from having an epidural, which in my opinion are the worst thing a normal labouring woman can have,
there is a place for epidurals, but not in normal labour, and many labours would remain normal if women did not have epidurals.

i havn't yet plucked up the courage to even visualise that bit of the birthing process
not sure I'd like being at that end at that point in time !!
I must say I was delighted client was able to have her wishes ie natural birth & water birth especially as her uncle is anaethetist ooer spelling !!! & he was totally - have an epidural - she didnt want one whatsoever & my task i think - was to prevent such an occurance if possible actually and to prepare her body & energise incoming soul
so mutually they were - ready for action !!

as you know i havent done it, but i do remember susanne saying it could be just a short talk about your case studies... i think its an understanding of your findings that she is after.

everyone else will be in the same boat and i am sure a 5 - 10 minute *chat* would do the trick.

It will be part I Pre, so no presentation for me. However when Susanne came to talk to our local AOR group about the courses it didn't sound like the 'presentation' was that big a deal. I think it's as Rosie says, so, as they said in the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy' DON'T PANIC

I would so much love to go on one of Suzanne's courses - when you go could you beg her to do one in the North East of England. I think Maternity reflexology sounds so lovely.

Tell you what Pauline, I will PM you her contact details. If you and some others in the North East are interested in getting her to come and give a course, it would not harm to email her suggesting it. She may get more requests to visit the North East and decide that there are enough people interested to make it viable. I may be wrong but I think she may have done something in the North East recently.
