My dog is constipated, would massaging his buttocks help?

My goldy has had this problem for some time now, the vet said it will come naturally but i can not stand to see her in pain like this any more !

Lol no it will only make u look weird you can go to walmart or h-e-b to get wet can food called ceaser it helps there digestive system so that will help his/her problem plus there's other wet food that says that it will help there constipation dilemma

No you need to suck it out immediately! If you don't the poop will back up all the way to her stomach and then she'll get sick! If you don't have a straw or hose or something, then just hold your nose and think of roses

The organs are too far internal for that to help, the pelvic bones restrict any massage movements.

Vets have a liquid that can be given to a dog to loosen stool, I'm surprised yours did not suggest that to you. If yours is in pain she needs some help.

Change his diet and run him lots, I run my dog a couple of miles a day and he always goes after a while on his run.

Canned Pureed Pumpkin. Give her 2-3 tbs twice a day. Do not get Canned Pumpkin Pie filling..

Pureed pumpkin has a high fiber and water content. It will help with constipation usually within 2-3 doses. if she has been constipated for a while, or its a recurring problem You need to change her food. try adding california blend raw frozen veggies to her diet They usually love them as treets and the veggies are high in fiber as well.

my sister uploaded this question but its okay it turns out our dog wasn't constipated just pregnant!!
it was wonderful and amazing,3 baby girl puppies and 1 boy - they were very small which was why we probably didn't realize she was pregnant till the excessive barking started ! thanks for any suggestions though and we will remember for next time if needed.......
AND ALSO THE QUESTION SHOULD HAVE SAID 'MASSAGE HER BUTTOCKS'

lol massaging her butt wont help it will make it painful for her when you move it around. just make sure she has water. the vet knows things, thats why he tells you to let it come naturally because he knows what to do. trust him. after your dog is regular she will feel happier than ever.
but...
if it doesnt get better after a while you should go see a doctor and ask to try a doggie laxative.

It would be far better to find out what's actually causing the constipation. And if the current vet can't help - switch!! Especially if this is causing her actual pain. Dogs are not normally constipated (obviously!!), and this needs sorting out - even if it means gradually switching her diet, if this is what's causing her problem. I'm just wondering, given the breed, whether she actually has a blockage (Goldens, and Labs CHEW) and if so, this is serious.

Add Do NOT give her any form of laxative without finding out exactly what's causing all this and only on the advice of a vet - you could do more harm than good, especially if there is a blockage.

Massaging your dog's butt won't help his problem, and I am surprised your vet didn't give you any better advice.

There could be many problem here. Could be your dog simply needs a change in his diet. A better quality dog food, or adding a little something to help him eliminate more easily. Have you tried canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling, but pure canned pumpkin), a little wheat germ oil, or even a little vegetable oil can help. There are also several types of medication that can help this problem.

If you vet can't help you with this fairly simple problem, then you need another vet.
