Any of you have clients with MS? I have been working on a client for several years now every week. I generally givee her a firm but not deep massage except in the gluts and legs where I look for tender points and trigger points to release. Anyone found any helpful techniques?

I've worked on a lady who has MS a few times, and basically the session seems to go by however she is feeling that day. With that said, she loves compression and skin rolling! I do skin rolling on her back and could probably do it for the whole hour. She has also had great results with compression getting feeling back in her arms after a session of that. She has other things going on on top of the MS, but give those two things a try and see how your client likes it! I was shocked that something so simple can provide such great results.

I have worked with client in the past with disease and also know people with this disease.
I also was tested for it once but with negative results so I started looking into it more.

I found one on reflexology, trager and massage in general.

and one of the most interesting things I came across was that the CDC makes a connection to the Human Herpes Virus VI (6)-it's a relative of the other herpes viruses) and MS.

People who have it really bad - like can't walk, are losing their eyesight are really grateful for the touch and support. I don't think it can do much at that seforum.xxxe but then again you never know.

Others who don't have it as bad I think can be helped more as it hasn't destroyed their nerve sheaths yet.

I know a few people who have gotten the interferon shots at $1500 a pop as they get scared into it by the medical profession but have also seen people managing it with homeopathy, gluten free, sugar free diets and natural methods.

It's a tough one for sure! Let me know if you ever come across any other good articles on it or information.

Thanks to the responses. In addition I find my client also enjoys tapotement and vibration as with a genie massager.

I have a client with MS who comes in weekly, and has used massage to help rehabilitate her (almost completely rehabbed in one year, after being diagnosed in her 50's, but that's another story).

She likes regular massage, with focus on back, hands, and feet. Once a month we do a 90 and include legs, but in our usual 60 minute sessions we skip legs and just do feet.

We go by how she feels, sometimes she wants a deep swedish, sometimes she just wants some gentle effleurage. She does like vigorous paraspinal rubbing with the ulnar side of my hands (special request!), and requests that I use her special essential oil blend on her (from Sunrider foods...). I can't feel my hands afterwards because of the E.O., but, it washes off
