MP closing times Sundays too ?...credit cards safe ?

Anybody know what time the MP's generally close ?....and specifically Sundays as I woiuld like to go to them today.......

was wondering if it's generally safe to use credit cards at MPs ....any experience appreciated....thanks !

dont use credit cards anywhere beside from ATM and hotel transactions. If you seriously want to though I think it can be done at hotel little havana.. Best to leave your credit card at your room in case something happens when out and about.

i think its best not to use CC at MPs. Best not to leave any trail. Think about it, you are asking if it is ok to use CC for SEX at MPs? :?

Cash money for most transactions is what most guys here will tell you. Colones is what the majority will say...but there is still some benefits in using dollars some of the time.

Dude..use the search option...and read. You'll come across lots of info.

they do close earlier on sundays, I only use my credit card at HLH, the more I use my CC the more I can fly for free !!!

Must MP close around 6pm on Sundays.

Credit card use outside the US is a 50 -50 coin toss I have good and bad thing occur when I used them.

I have used a cc at ZB/hlh never a problem.I would not attempt it at any other mp.

You are not paying for sex, you are paying for the girl's time and the room rental. Whatever happens in the room is between you and the girl. :

I’m surprise Orange did not point you to his excellent report, link below, the CR bible. Read and memorize. I can only comment on the CC question. I only use them to pay my hotel stay. I always take 3-4 CC for any emergencies but they stay at the room safe. Everything else is paid with the chica’s middle name, CASH.

I am surprised that many of you still recommend using a credit card to pay for your hotel stay, and use the ATM machines.

Your bank in the United States is taking a 2-4% charge on foreign currency exchange. So, for example if spend $300 on your hotel, $100 on other charges, and a $500 ATM withdraw, then you have paid the bank $18 to $36 for the privilege of partying in Costa Rica.

It can get even worse if the hotel quotes you a rate in USD because the hotel gets to decide the exchange rate when they actually bill you in colones.

You can use the credit card to book the reservation, however at check out time just pay in cash. Exchange your cash dollars at the local Costa Rican bank, especially Citibank or Banco de San Jose and you will get the best possible rate.

Of course all of this really requires a room with a safe, and avoid getting robbed on the way from the airport.

I have used my credit card on numerous occasions at both Idem and HLH and have never had any issues.

There is a small misconception in this thread and amongst most of the web site.

In Costa Rica a business as a few options when it comes to processing credit card transactions. Along with these options also come different costs to the business in terms of credit cards commission that must be paid to the collecting bank.

By far the most common company used is Credimatic. From Credimatic every business has an option of charging a credit card in Colones or Dollars. The business is charged an additional 1% (at least in my case that is how my contracts are written, YMMV).

For the consumer, again YMMV depending on your credit card company, if you are charged in Dollars there is no 2-4% commission for international transactions as there is no exchange rate involved.

My suggestion is to simply ask the front desk if it is possible to charge your credit card in Dollars rather than in Colones.

Again from the consumer's point of view, if youu are like me and have a credit card from Credimatic there are also a few differences. I got an Amex from Credimatic late last year. And for the first time in my life I was late on a credit card payment. Rather than receiving a paper bill it is up to me to check my online account through my bank for my statement. I did this a few days prior to my due date and according to my summary page I had a balance of about $2k. I paid the balance in full in Dollars (or I thought I did!).

What I did not know is that I actually have to pay 2 separate bills each month. One is Colones for any charges that were made in Colones and one in Dollars for any transactions there were made in Dollars. Because my account is in Dollars and because the exchange rate was less than 500 to 1 at the time I technically over paid my Dollars balance but did not pay my Colones balance.

When I noticed and understood the problem I quickly made the adjustment and paid off my balance.

My point of this whole response is to simply ask if it is possible to be charged in Dollars to try and prevent the internation commissoin from your US bank.

I have gone to HLH and used a CC every time without a problem and I monitor my usage closely. However, I'll never use it at another MP. You don't have to worry about what people see. Its for a hotel room. Technically speaking its a tax deductible expense for business and you get miles on your CC.
