Massaging over clothes

Hello All,

I've just found out that I will be massaging at a netball tournament (100+ people) on Saturday. I will finish my course at the end of June so this is just more practice. One thing we haven't covered in our course is what happens if the client is fully dressed.

I know I can think of some varients on the massage and will just make it up but any tips from you guys will be really helpful.

I'm pretty nervous but it will be a great opportunity to get future clients.

Any tips on massaging outdoors, pre-event & post event, over clothes etc.

Hi Kitten

A bit of a non starter massaging over clothes, not enough sensations so it is difficult to detect the problems, just use good towel techniques as best you can

Pre event is to stretch and warm up the muscles and ligaments, so you are looking at a brisk massage technique, after more slow to get rid of the toxins and ease the muscles, its common sense when you think about it ;-)

Hi there Kitten warrior,
I suspect the event was yesterday, but I thought I'd reply anyway. I was going to say that the only massage I know of that works well through clothing are Thai massage and on-site/seated/chair massage, which are designed specifically to be done with the client clothed. Both types of massage are carried out by appling pressure to specific points and no oil is used for this, unlike holistic/swedish massage. I think Paul has given you good advice and hope it was of help. Let me know how you got on.

I had a practice at massaging over clothes before the event and it was OK on the legs but quite difficult on the back.

To my relief it was boiling hot on the day and everyone was in shorts so I didn't have to do any over clothes massages. I did back massages mainly on guys who were happy to take their T-shirts off.

It was very successful and good experience.
