Massage Tables

Ok, so I will be starting school in September and it is recommended that I get a table for home practice, etc. I looked online and was a little overwhelmed. I even read the info on massagewarehouse.com about choosing a good table. For now, I need some plain English. Anyone recommend specific brands, styles? I am looking for something sturdy and super comfortable for the client. Any advice will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!Laura ;D

Laura,Does your school expect you to have the table when you start?  At most schools they don't require you to have a table until a little further into the program.  My school had a table representative come to the school.  You will be able to actually see the differences, feel the different padding, see how heavy they are, etc.  I have an Oakworks Nova.  It's a very comfortable table and I've had no problems with it.  However, it is pretty heavy and was not at all fun to carry to outcalls.  If I was to continue doing outcalls, I would have had to get a different table, or I would no longer be in business.  If the school is requiring you to have it before you begin school, perhaps you can go to the school and chat with someone there or maybe some of the other students.  Maybe you can look at some of the tables they have at the school.

It isn't required before school starts but we will start needing them fairly soon after the program starts (September). I am only researching now in order to budget out the right amount needed. They have an excellent store at the school I will be attending and the Admissions person told me they have a lot of knowledge on what are good tables. Of course, I will buy mine out of a catalog because I am a licensed Esthetician and I can find better prices than they would charge at the store. Just looking for people with personal experience who may have some advice. Thanks!

I too have a Nova from Oakworks.  I did buuy it through the rep who came to school.  There was a package and discount.I also would have bought the lighter Wellsring(alum) because Oatcalls were a bear for me.....carrying that table.Do save up and get the best you can afford.Do not skimp and buy a no name.  You do not want to risk a person falling through a table.There are several companies besides Oakworks who all advertise in the catalogues.  They all have comparable add ons.  They all test for stability. Make sure yours is UL listed.Hopefully table carts have come a long way. Mine was useless unless you were moving on a flat surface.  It had "stair bars" but they were useless.The option I got but never have used is the Shiatsu cable releases.  It was free though.Check out different tables at school.  Though most are likely to be the same brand, some will be wider than others.I think I ordered mine too wide.I am on the shorter but fluffier side so I have to have clients slide over to me a lot.Now that the table is in my office and I am not lugging it around, I will def buy another from Oakworks when the time comes.Robyn

i also have a oakworks nova it was included in the whole school package and i do highly recomend getting one of those carts with wheels (they make it soo much easier)look over the options i upgraded and got the reiki end panels so i could slide my legs under the table to do either head work or reflexology (only one end has this pannel) be very careful buying used we were actually taught in school to never buy used but you may want to ask the school if they know anyone selling their table most of the students that quit were selling theirs and they had never been open out of orig. box this could save you some bucks

I wouldn't be in a big hurry to buy a table. You might be able to get a discount through the school. Chances are if there is a discount available it will be a package deal and the deal will be pretty good. Mine is an Earthlite (I think) and I got a good package deal discount and free shipping.  Some classmates ordered through one of the warehouses and had a horrible time getting hers due to some confusion with payment and agreed to ship date etc.  I'd wait and see.  Use the time to learn as much as you can about the different brands.
