Massage Medium - Tui Massage Waxes

Hey all,

I have recently started using the Tui Massage Waxes ( http://www.tuibalmes.co.nz/retail/bodywaxes.htm ) with the majority of my clients and was wondering if anyone else uses them? I find them fantastic, much nicer to use then oils - particularly on hairy bodies. They are organic products of beeswax with almond, olive and arnica oils available unscented or scented with a variety of essential oils ready for use.

Have you heard of them or indeed used them? What are your opinions or what is your preferred medium?

I have used these waxes - guess who recommended them????

I do find them very good for swedish - not so good for Aromatherapy of course as not so easy to blend with the required oils .

Do you have any ideas how this could be done?

I had never heard of these waxes, and have emailed the UK distributor for a price list!! You live and learn!

I have never had a reply from the UK distributor, and wonder whether you can let me know where you get your waxes from? The website says UK orders must be placed via this distributor -is there any other way to get them, as he is ignoring me LOL!

Really sorry to hear that KPUK. I have never had a problem with Andy / Tui Trading before, but I usually phone them - have you called them?

On the website it does list UK retailers for the Tui products ( http://www.tuitrading.co.uk/retailers.htm ), obviously buying through these you will be paying more then needed.

Funnily enough I got an email today!!!!

Just a question though- as I am not qualified as an aromatherapist, can I still use the waxes that contain essence? I notice even the plain wax contains arnica, are we still ok to use this as just Massage Therapists?

I too have used these waxes, thought I would give them ago being a fellow kiwi and all....I loved them. it's great when you knock them over because they dont' spill.

I did have one client who didn't like them as much as oils, she said they stayed on her skin too much creating a greasy feel.

Personally I like working with them

I have been to lots of salons for a massage and the therapist has used a preblended oil. ( even a dermalogica one with Lemongrass and Rosemary in it without checking with me first about contraindications) so I guess you should be OK.
But as always check with your insurance company if you are in any doubt .

And get the data sheet for the product you are using - the supplier should be able to given you info regarding circumsatnce under which the product should not be used.

Well, I think that I will ask my regulars whether I may use them. I am going to get the sports and injuries one, and also the relaxing one sounds divine!!

Does anyone else get sick of the smell of *plain* oil?!!

There is nothing to stop you using essential oils in your blends and certainly nothing to stop you using pre-blended products.

Aromatherapist are trained to blend oils to suit the client, but therapists do use them even when not trained. There are no laws against it actually. Having said that you would be better of training in the use of essential oils and you do need to know the contra-indications.

I think that usually in the pre-blended stuff they amounts are so low anyway, but best to check with the client first. It's only natural that you would get bored with plain oil and want to know more.

I haven't heard of these products before at all.

I have to say that Tui were very helpful! I couldnt order via the website, so they actually rang me and were very helpful!!

My waxes came today (I ordered Sports and Healing, and Relaxing), and they also included testers of some of the others!

I cant wait to try them out on friday, they certainly "feel" lovely ;-)

Well today I got to use the wax - I used the Sports and Healing wax on a particularly hairy back!!

I was very pleasantly surprised at how a little goes a long way! As the wax looks so solid in the tub, I thought it might take some "working in", but again was very pleaantly surprised at how quickly it melted onto the skin. It certainly did seem to skim over the hair making a much smoother massage.

My only gripe would be that for a Full Body, I am used to having my bottle of oil in my pocket, to dispense easily and quickly when moving onto to a new area, or as more is needed. With a big 500g tub, I couldnt do that!! I compromised and used the wax on the back, and oil on the rest of the body.

I would heartily recommend the wax though. Andy also sent me a couple of sample pots of the other essences blends, and they all smell divine. I am a definite convert!

The clinic I work at are now going to be providing me with the items I need "to carry out my duties" (!) and I have requested a tub of wax. I have also said that if they are not prepared to provide it, I will carry on using my own supplies as I liked it so much.
