Massage job vacancies please!

Hi! I have just passed my ITEC Holistic Massage Diploma and am looking for work. However I am having a little trouble in finding the vacancies. I am wanting to first work for an organisation to get some experience and then branch out into my own business as some stage. Does anybody know if there's like a special magazine or something which advertises job vacancies for therapists? I would be very greatful fo any help with this as can't wait to start massaging. I live in Nottingham. Cheers!

congrats on passing your exams!!

I never - even to this day - have found any magazines that specifically target therapists - occasionally there are vacancies mentioned in the IGPP magazine for Cruise Ship Therapists !!

The best thing to do is to get writing! Write to all the places near you that you think will benefit from a Massage Therapist - eg Sports Centres, Doctors Surgeries, Osteopaths, Chiropractors etc etc.

I finally got lucky at a Chiropractic Centre - not one I would have thought of myself, but was sugggested to me and has turned out great! The Medical Centre that I thought would leap at the chance (!! how niaive I was!) said gthey had to put the patients needs first so had no room for me!!

I went into my local beauty salon, and because all the beauty therapists seemed to hate doing massage, I became the sunday Massage therapist, and now after 2 months am solidly booked... however, I get paid £10per hr even tho the client pays £42 for Full Body Massage.... but i figured that the experience was more valuable than the money as i have just recently qualified also!
So, maybe you could try your local salons etc.

Hi. I started out doing voluntary work with cancer patients which gave me great experience and confidence and also credibility to get work privately.

I run my own clinic now and have just taken on a new therapist and am passing people onto her.

I wouldn't write actually. I would go in. Mind you, we are in the North and peeps are so much friendlier, having lived in London I realise there is a big difference. We get the odd CV, but our new therapist came by and I liked her so much I asked her to give me a treatment and it was fantastic.

We rent out rooms but only take on therapists that we interview and get treatments from to keep our standards high.

We charge £30 for a fully body massage, the therapist keeps the money and pays us £8 for the room for the hour or £22 for four hours booked in advance, so I think they get a good deal.

I would take your CV, your certificates and insurance details and drop into every possible place that you can. Getting talking to the owners is the best way of getting your foot in the door I think.

Good luck. Don't give up, it takes ages to get established and you need patience. It will most likely take you a couple of years to get booked up and even then you get slack periods.

i am a new mwmber today and the reason i came to these pages is because i am in the same situation, i have a degree in sport science and a level 3 diploma in sports massage therapy and i have been looking for a job for a year there is nothing- either that or I have the worst luck in the world. but after reading your comments i feel a bit more positive.

You really do have to stick with it and be determined if you want to do it.

At our clinic we find it very frustrating that therapists won't promote themselves and expect us to get them the work.[]

It's a hard slog. We like our thearapists to produce their own leaflets, write stuff for the website, come along to events promoting the Centre and if they can come in and answer the phone! They don't get paid for that. I did all of that when I started there as a therapist and the ones who are prepared to do it are the ones that get the work.

Once you actually get your hands on the clients then you are on the home run if you are good. They will re-book, tell their friends and love you forever.

We have other therapist who are not prepared to do it, appear to not be that bothered and are not prepared to put themselves out, work odd hours etc etc and to be honest, they don't make a success of it.

Eventually you don't have to try so hard! Hopefully you will be too busy anyway.

I am very willing and determined, i have a few things in the pipe line but its all for charity, which is great but it would be nice to earn something for my hard work- next friday I am massaging for Chicago the musical in Southampton which is very exciting, and i aim to hand out my cards and leaflets backstage and earn lots of money for a good cause.

Sometimes you have to invest a bit to get something back and I am sure a lot of people would love such an opportunity. It is a real breakthrough.

You could try osteopaths and chiropractors. The osteo that I use is currently starting a sports massage clinic once a week (unfortunately in Herts).
