Massage for children

Hi guys,

I was just wondering how many of you massaged children and advertised it as a service or do people mainly use it as an add on for a mum whose paid for massage.

I am not thinking of any particular age, so it could be from 3 - 16. Its just i did a massage course for children and this wasn't really covered but i would also like the opinions of people who are actually doing it in practice.

Thinking about it, I don't think I've ever seen anyone offer a service involving massaging other people's children. Don't see why not - though I'd be surprised if there were many takers.

Baby massage is popular, but this is always done with the link in to the surgery and the baby clinics etc. So, you could always pop in to your local GP and speak to one of the practice nurses to see when and where your local baby clinics are and have a chat with them...? Good luck!!

I have used massage within my job as a teaching assistant and Senco and found its really benefited children, which is why i was interested in offering it.

Whilst on the course there were a couple of people who massaged children teenagers, hence one of the reasons why i asked.

I haven't seen it advertised either and was thinking about maybe offering it to my clients as an add on service, but its in the very early stages and just wondering what other people did. I could see why people don't advertise it though as it may be difficult for children to stay still, hence including it as an add on to a mum's treatment. Just thinking out loud!

If anyone else has any other thoughts it would be nice to hear them, thank you.

That's one reason. And people can be a wee bit sensitive about strangers touching their children...

I think you would definitely need parental consent to do this with children under 16 and would need a chaperone present.

You would also need a CRB check which is difficult to obtain if you work for yourself. Although I think some professional bodies now do this on therapists' behalf.

I currently work with children in my day job, so may have a look at incorporating it into part of my role with the children, at least this way the parents and children know me plus i am CRB checked. I just think its very dissapointing if children miss out on such a lovely treatment.

While I could see the advantage of having this, if you are planning to work on children, is it actually true that you NEED it?
