Hi

I'm just covering module VR74 on the VCTC Swedish Massage course and have these two questions:

Why is is importmant for clients to feel at ease and how would I know if they were not ?

What actions can I take to make clients feel safe and reassured ?

I have read up on this, but just cannot find the right words to sum it up.
I'd be grateful for some help.

a few possible pointers follow

Why is is importmant for clients to feel at ease

- need to establish a professional rapport
- trust relationship is important
- possible misapprehensions so essential to explain treatment and what it entails
- optimum benefit can accrue when a client is at ease with therapist, surroundings,
and knows what the experience will entail

and how would I know if they were not ?

- non-verbals are important (to me)
- tension should be easy to spot - is it due to not being at ease?
- ask a few questions to assist you determine the client's state and offer
reassuring comments should you feel they are not at ease



What actions can I take to make clients feel safe and reassured ?

- important to explain a treatment and what it entails esp. if they are having it for
first time - also they may not have been with you previously
- ambiance of setting is important - safe, quite, friendly, warm environment
- your professional image will be vital and also how you approach client and the
consultation process
- ask questions and afford client a chance to express any reservations that they may
have
- and I would often commence a treatment with a new client with some discussion
and questioning to assure myself that they felt comfortable with 'what was going
on'

Do these ideas make sense?

Yes, they all make sense now that I can read them in front of me !!

I can now put pen to paper and sum them up ready for Monday. I just had trouble getting the point across without going around the houses !!
