massage and pregnant ladies

Hi folks,
need some advice.
my friend, who is 6 months pregnant wants to have a massage / foot massage. I've only done head massage so cant give her any advice.
Would anyone be able to tell me if this would be harmfull to her, give her any advice or tips, and are there oils etc you would recommend. That way she can have information at hand when she makes her booking / choice of therapist.

The only aroma oil recomended for pregnancy is mandarin. A gentle back massage should be ok although the lady would probably have to sit on a chair or lay on her side on a couch (obvious really cos of the bump)

Find a therapist who has done a course in prenatal massage (if you are near Berkshire let me know I may be able to help).....no problems having a full body massage (and absolutely wonderful for the pregnant mum!) but make sure you get a qualified therapist.....generally i would avoid using any essential oils but mandarin is known to be safe as are a couple of others.....any questions let us know.

Thanks for the tip on Mandarin oil - do you thik she would be able to use some of this in one of those foot spa things????

As long as its diluted well it should be fine tell her to be carefull though wouldnt want her to tumble with slippy feet.
Oh and it sounds like you have a vivid immagination like me

Thought id pamper my poor feet in the spa one night so in a total brainstorm i just grabbed some smelly stuff from the bathroom...... yes you guessed it BUBBLES everywhere. And i couldnt get rid of them for ages lol it was a real therapy[sm=jump1.gif]

Phoned my friend she was having histerics at my graphic descriptions of her and her lump getting on a couch etc, best laugh she's had ( she's at the moody and i'm ugly stage)in ages. I told her to make sure she was holding hard on taht lump as i didn't want any accidents,lolol

Hi, I have done quite a few pregnant ladies from early to really late. Mandarin isn't the only oil I am pleased to say! You should steer clear of emmenagogue oils during the first three months only, after that there are lots of oils you can use and actually there is no documentated evidence of any harm being caused by oils during pregnancy - but then why risk it.

Oils such as Neroli, Sandalwood, Frankincense, orange, petitgrain, lemon, mandarin, grapefruit are all good choices and lavender and roman chamomile is safe after the first three months. I have some info somewhere if you email me I will send you a copy.

I usually get them to sit in a chair facing the couch and put a couple of pillows on the couch for them to lean forward on and then massage them like that and it works well, but some like to like to lie on their sides. Propped up on the couch is good for foot massage or reflexology, just make sure their back is supported and they are comfortable. Massage during pregnancy is great and very beneficial!
