massage after childbirth

Good evening everyone

Not sure if this has already been asked and even if i am in the right area but could anyone advise me as to how long should lapse from childbirth to having a full swedish body massage.

As part of my pregnancy massage training, we had to do some time in a maternity ward at a hospital. It meant that we actually were doing more post-natal than pre-natal treatments, and some if those treatments were literally the day they gave birth.

Having a baby is like running a marathon, some people want a massage after and some don't, the correct length of time is whatever the mother is comfortable with, be it 6 hrs or 6 months.

Because I am a reflexologist as well as giving massage treatments I always try to steer my new mums towards a reflexology treatment in the first couple of weeks after childbirth instead of a massage but more from a practical point of view as in the reflexology chair they can feed the baby if necessary and we don't need to worry about uncomfortable chests full of milk! It also helps bring them back some balance and gives a deeper relaxation.

However if my ladies prefer a massage which some of them are desperate for, then we always try to make sure that someone else can take baby out during the treatment to avoid interruptions, we do the massage side lying the same as we do a pregnancy massage and use lots of pillows to support mum and especially her chest which is often uncomfortable, using extra towels here as well. The time frame is more about when mum feels ready Tracey

thank you so much for your help, have had an enquiry and wasn't too sure if there were any hard and fast rules. The time lapse will have been 10 weeks so feel a little more at ease, just worried in case it was a matter of days (treatment was a gift to her) Having now spoken to her feel relaxed about carrying out the treatment.
