Lypossage?

A news story is running on a local FOX TV station tonight about Lipossage. I have not heard of this, but after doing some quick research it appears to be a series of deep tissue massages to reduce the apperance of cellulite.
Does anyone have any experience with this? I am very curious. t017

I remember reading something about "cellulite massage" being taught/practiced in the USA back in the 1940s/50s. The nature of cellulite is such that myofascial work might be able to somewhat alter its appearance. The site also mentions lymph drainage techniques, but doesn't indicate the depth of that part of the training.

The before & after photos on the lipossage site appear genuine, though not particularly impressive without more info about # of treatments and length of time between the B&A pictures. Realistically, a good nutrition and exercise program could achieve superior results in 6-8 weeks, and at lower cost. But for people who want a little more change without the work, this might be appealing.

I've had training in massage that will break up adipose tissue sans the lymphatic drainage. As written by Jason, the effects are noticeable but you will get better results ridding the body of too much adipose by improving your dietary and exercise regimen. The effects of the work are short lived but will satisfy anyone with the $$ to burn and the general desire for instant gratification.

I have taken the Lypossage training.
It is a combination of deep tissue massage and lymphatic drainage.
it is extremely expensive (the training) - especcially when you add in all the products you are supposed to buy to sell to clients.
Including supplements.

You are also supposed to sell them a series package.
In three years I have not made back even the cost of the training.
I am not a very good salesperson I guess :grin:

It actually DOES work somewhat.
Much better than just nutrition and dieting alone. And if I had my own spa I would probably bundle a cellulite or detox wrap with a Lypossage session in one service on the menu.

As with all body treatment services, it is not as popular as the vendor makes it out to be.

Scope of practice, anyone? I can see this being a lucrative offer for some upscale spa centers, but the addition of the supplement aspect makes it no-go territory for me. I don't see how your average MT or massage center could ethically incorporate that aspect of the program into their practice.

There are many skin care product lines that offer supplements.
Just a couple off the top of my head are Murad and Pevonia.

I don't think that there is a "scope of practice" issue here because there is no diagnosis or prescription.
People are free to purchase whatever supplements that they wish - and I hope that it will always be that way.

It's all about retail sales and companies trying to cash in on whatever market is "hot".
Fo the Lypossage line, the offer a Red Rooiboos tea that is quite yummy....oh yeah - lots of skin care lines offer herbal teas also.
It's a "Spa" thing....
