Hi does anyone know of a good book on lymphatic drainage

You may be interested to know that the NHS prefers not to use MLD these days, but to use compression, exercise and elevation instead! I'm trying to see the lymphoedema specialist at the hospice where I volunteer so I can find out more about this.

Not completely true Chris - some services still use MLD, but others are so stretched they simply don't have the time for hands on therapy. Casley-Smith MLD is taught in some university hospitals as part of the nursing and physiotherapy training.

I think the OP (Susan) is after some books on the subject. There are many - mainly text/reference - have a 'google'! However, some of the books go into depth about MLD sequences and movements - these don't translate very well without some hands-on tuition. There is also a subtle difference between MLD and LDM (lymphatic drainage massage)

You have to know what you're doing with MLD. In cases of lymph odema etc. You'll not be insured if you haven't done the appropriate training.

A doctor once called me to ask me to treat his father who had lymph odema. I wouldn't touch it. Do the training.

What are the differences between MLD & LDM?

I've done a course and the handout used both terms.

The way it was explained to me - manual lymphatic drainage is used specifically to effect movement of the lymphatic fluid through the tissue and can (if the therapist has done proper training) be used on people with compromised lymphatic systems. Lymphatic drainage massage has almost the same effect, but is less 'specific' in the sequences/techniques and should not be used for people with compromised lymphatic systems, but purely as a method of relaxation.

I am thinking about doing the training for this but i want to read more about it before i do so if anyone know of some good books i would be greatful
