Linking during routine

I am currently training in reflexology with AOR. Quite an intense course and tiring to say the least! I am just about to embark on my case studies and wondered if anyone has any advice or helpful hints on what to and what not to include in the client studies etc. Also I am trying out linking with some good results but have only ever seen it done not to sure what to do?? Is there any books on it or is it an advanced technique needing a course? Can anyone explain what to do and how you link as I have asked around and been told its a course jobbie but not sure if this is simply to extract more cash for training than is necessary....

I have to admit I'm not 100% sure what you mean by linking, I have something in mind with regards an endocrine flush link.. but doubt that is it. Perhaps it's the terminology I use.

I wouldn't worry about what not to include in the case studies, some self-appraisal would be great for a tutor to read - if you have a new technique then mention you used it, trial and error is what it's about and having a play with the tools at your disposal is part of that process, enjoy it, experiment, learn, you'll love it!

There are some threads on here about the reflexology papers for AOR, I think there's a stickied one which mentions a lot of reflex things in it. Include condition of the feet, presenting condition, aftercare, imbalances found, corrections done, self-appraisal and any reflections on the treatment.

I did AoR training too, and from my experience I think they will probably want you just to stick to the bog standard reflexology you are being taught for now. As you say, there is an awful lot to learn, and if you start exploring advanced techniques like linking you will probably end up having brain meltdown anyway. I hope I'm not sounding like an old killjoy here! I would say, learn the basics thoroughly then once you are qualified you can do all the exciting stuff like linking (Precision Reflexology), VRT, ART, Maternity Reflexology, Gentle Touch, reading of the feet and so on. There is loads and loads to discover and reflexology is NEVER boring because of this, so congratulations for choosing it! Good luck.

Hi delamare. I may be able to get you some info on where you can train in linking - I am going to do the course next year - it is only a couple of days as I recall, more as a supplement to your training than a stand alone thing. I already do a couple of linking techniques - which I was taught on another course, to help balance the body orease anxiety- the effects canbe quite amazing - I managed to levitate the left foot on our "patient" while my tutor did the same on the other foot! Never been able to do that again though!
I don't profess to know a lot about it so it is better that I find out the info and get back to you.

Hi there, I've heard that Jan Williamson runs Precision Reflexology courses in Devon. I know someone on here has been to one, and the feedback was excellent. You might also find that she has trained others up to give courses on the technique, as it's a lot for one person to do on their own. Keep an eye on Reflexions, if you get it, and also a Google search might turn something up.

Delamare, I agree with At One. Just concentrate on learning the technique that you are being taught on the course that you are doing. I remember my training a year ago, and it was hard enough trying to remember the A&P and the treatment sequence, with out going off on a tangent.

Linking is a fascinating technique, and can have powerful results. For anyone interested in Precision Reflexology I would recommend attending Jan's course. She runs postgraduate courses for those already qualified in another technique.

Hi Claire, I have just completed my aor course and my tutor taught us linking there. I say "taught" but in reality it is more of an intuitive thing, one finger on the crystal area, the other where feels right for you, opposite side of the foot is a good place to start. On the course we found that the energy flow can be very strong and can be felt by practitioner and client. Hope this is useful.

Just to put your mind at rest, I can give you the official information on AOR policy regarding extra courses/learning for students (I am an AoR main course tutor).

The AoR dont encourage students to participate in any CPD style events until after they have qualified. This is because the AoR recognise that there is enough to learn while a student, and you quite rightly state that the course is intense.

While doing your case studies, you should follow the routine that your tutor has shown you - however I totaly agree with one aspect that Footwizard mentioned, and that is one of 'following your own intuition'. If you feel led to apply pressure to another area, and it shows a h'hot spot' - so much the better - and this will make writting up the case study more interesting too.
