NCC Therapeutic Massage Clinic accepting clients

Northampton Community College's Massage Therapy students are seeking clients. As part of their education, they practice in NCC's therapeutic massage clinic.

Rep. Cartwright to hold town hall meeting

Rep. Matt Cartwright, 17th Congressional district, will host a public town hall meeting 6:30-7:30 p.m. May 30 at Strausser Community Center, 2210 Liberty St., Easton. This event is an opportunity for constituents to hear from Cartwright during a brief presentation.

Women's divorce workshop

Second Saturday, a nonprofit created by women for women, will offer a divorce workshop 9 a.m.-noon June 10 at Penn State-Lehigh Valley, 2809 Saucon Valley Road, Center Valley.


The workshop covers the emotional, legal and financial issues of divorce. There will be a counselor/life coach, attorney and certified divorce financial analyst who will speak on the topics. Concealed carry and home-defense class slated

A concealed carry and home-defense course will be held at 8:30 a.m. June 17 at the Guthsville Rod & Gun Club, 2676 Valley Road, South Whitehall Township.

The course consists of five hours of classroom work and range training. The cost is $180 and includes a copy of the textbook "Concealed Carry and Home Defense." Class sizes are limited and registration is required. On successful completion of the course, students receive a U.S. Concealed Carry Association certificate of completion. LCCC seeks nominations for Alumni Board

The Lehigh Carbon Community College Alumni Association nominating committee is seeking new officers for the Alumni Board. Submit nominations to the Office of College Relations, Student Services Center Room 112, by 5 p.m. June 18 or email Jane Wilchak, [email protected].

To nominate someone or to be considered for the Alumni Board, you must be an alumnus or an associate member of the Alumni Association. The Alumni Association recognizes as associate members those who have earned at least 30 credits during their academic career at LCCC. The association promotes the general welfare and success of LCCC and its alumni and is committed to furthering the development of LCCC by actively cultivating support and involvement from alumni, students, faculty, staff and the community.

Nature programs being held in Freemansburg

The Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor and the Lehigh Valley Audubon Society are partnering on a series of Wednesday morning children's nature programs at the Freemansburg Canal Education Center this summer. Programs will be held 10-11:30 a.m. for children ages 8-12 and are free. Attendance is limited to 12 children at each event and pre-registration is required. A parent or relative is required to attend the programs.

"The Beauty of Native Plants" will be held June 21. Children will learn the importance of flowering plants and then will plant six different species on the education center grounds.

"A Kid's Bird Walk on the Lehigh Canal" will be July 12. Binoculars will be provided for children for this introductory program on bird identification and bird watching.

"Lessons in Healthy Stream Ecology" will be Aug. 16. The program will focus on hidden life forms that inhabit streams and the importance of good water quality.

Summer STEM classes for students at LCCC

Lehigh Carbon Community College will offer summer classes in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math at its main campus in Schnecksville, designed specifically for students in grades 6-10. These brain fitness classes, titled "Pump up Your Brain!" are taught by LCCC instructors.

Participants can choose from one-week sessions that teach Everyday Biotechnology and the applications of chemistry and biology, in which students explore scientific concepts that can be applied in the home and garden.

Chemistry in the Kitchen will be held 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 10-14. Playing in the Dirt will be held 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 17-21. Classes are for students entering grades 9-10. Fee is $200 per week; additional materials fee may apply.

Computer Science Principles: Code! Play! Game! teaches gaming concepts through racing games, mazes and other activities. Students will create their own video games using a free, easy drag-and-drop program designed by MIT. Class will be held June 26-30. Sessions are 8:30-11:30 a.m. for students entering grades 6-8 and 1:30-4:30 p.m. for students entering grades 9-10. Fee is $150 per week.

Women in Science: 19th Century-Present class pays special attention to the work in microbiology of Dr. Emmanuelle Charpentier, who discovered the CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing molecule, and a thorough investigation of the most famous Nobel Prize-winning "women in science." This class for students entering grades 6-8 will be 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, July 10-20. The fee is $400.

Advance fly-tying class


The Brodhead Chapter Trout Unlimited is offering a seven-session advance fly tying class at Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center, 8050 Running Valley Road, Stroudsburg. Classes begin at 6:30 p.m. and include Stimulators, Tips and Tactics, July 24; Snowshoe Gnat and Tenkara Kebari, July 31; Epoxy Body Streamers, Aug. 7; Knotted Pheasant Tail Legs, Aug. 21; Delta Caddis and Isonychia Emerger, Aug. 28; Foam Popper, Sept. 11; and Deer Hair Popper, Sept. 18.

Summer theater day camp scheduled

Zion Mennonite Church, 149 E. Cherry Lane, Souderton, will offer "Seussical Kids," a summer theater day camp for ages 6-14 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 24 to Aug. 4. Children can act, sing, paint, create and perform "Seussical Kids." The camp costs $350 for the two weeks. The final performance will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 4. Info: email [email protected].

LCCC offers Summer Bridge skills program

Lehigh Carbon Community College is offering a free program for new or first-generation students, adult students returning to college and military veterans, as well as anyone wanting to learn skills for academic success.

The 2017 Summer Bridge Program will be held 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, July 31 through Aug. 10, with sessions offered at LCCC sites in Allentown, Tamaqua and the main campus in Schnecksville.

The 2017 Summer Bridge Program will provide students entering the fall 2017 semester with strategies and skills to achieve academic success, prepare for the transition into college level coursework and strengthen math and reading skills. Upon completion of the sessions, students can retake the placement tests with the possibility of placing out of some developmental courses.
