I am a recently graduated massage therapy student ( yes I still consider myself a student), knowledgeable but by no means an expert. I'm trying to break out of the fluff and buff style of massage and into real therapeutic practice.
Luckily, I am blessed to have people in my family that could use therapeutic work and I am thrilled that I have the opportunity to help them.
I have a cousin that recently hurt himself playing a game of football. He has a history of spinal problems (scoliosis).
Assessment is an area than I need to work on, by my own admission. He was having a lot of problems walking, but he said it was in the lumbar region of his spine that was hurting him.
I know that the spine itself is not my domain, and I was wondering what I can do for him outside of referring him to a doctor ( he is not presently in a financial situation where he could afford a huge doctors bill )
What techniques would you use?
Thanks in advance.
