Labels and Products and Packaging

Does anyone have any ideas about packaging aromatherapy products this includes labels. I have made some soaps already and thought I could wrap in a nice colour tissue paper and maybe a colourful bag with ribbon.

I will also make some aromatherapy stuff, i.e. massage mixes, hair oil, foot and lip balm, but am asking around to see what you guys think might be a good idea as I have never done a stall at a summer festival before. Haven't got very long to get my act together as its next weekend. I am also in the process of getting bottles and tried F.W. Richardson but they're no longer in the phone directory.

Any help would be appreciated

Please check out the currency of this before using the following information (which is part google and part my own) that I prepared for an AT course some years ago before the UK became fully metric:

All cosmetic labels are required by law to have the following:

• You must identify the manufacturer or distributor (by name) of the product and have a way for the customer to reach them. Use company name, address and phone number. (This must be mechanically produced);

• You must list the ingredients in the order that they appear in the formula product type and use. The ingredients must be identified by their botanical (INCI) name. A marketing description and use of the product is nice, as is the fragrance name, but it is not required unless the product use is not obvious. (You can write this on);

• The Department of Weights and Measures requires the actual weight of the product both in standard and metric to be disclosed on the label. Metric should be first to comply with EU requirements. (Use mls and percentages);

• Include any warning statements needed (IE: “Warning: Not for internal use").

Hi Binah,
Just wanted to mention..watch the tissue paper colouring. I used to buy hand made soaps from a holistic supplier who worked on the fairs, he would wrap the oils after purchase and the tissue paper colour used to run into the soaps.

Mysterious Me, I to have done a course on the correct information about labelling etc, what I really want some tips on is how to do the labels i.e. the physical process. I haven't got a labelling machine, does anyone have one and what do you recommend. But thanks for all the info its good to have it on the screen in front of me.

I use my printer to do my labels (not for massage mixes, hair oil, foot and lip balm - not doing my ownyet but for books etc). If you use a ink jet printer let the ink dry and then use clear nail varnish to cover label. You can print a lot page of the same label or just a single label. As for packaging I not sure but you can make your own (google how to make boxes/packages) or buy off ebay.
