LA GRANGE, IL – La Grange is considering regulating massage firms to protect the public, according to a village memo.
On Monday, the Board Village is set to vote on a proposal to require that massage establishments be licensed.
Such a rule would ensure such businesses meet minimum health, safety and hygiene standards, ultimately preventing the spread of communicable diseases and ensuring clients' well-being, the memo said.
Now, the village has no regulations for massage establishments. The proposal includes background checks, sanitation and record-keeping requirements, and the village's right to inspect facilities and verify credentials.
"Requirements of this nature are generally considered an essential component of responsible local governance in the face of growing demand for wellness services," the memo said.
