Just Qualified-now what?!?

Hi all,
I recently passed my ITEC Holistic Massage exam Very pleased!
However, I am worried I will forget it all as I am having trouble getting clients or finding a spa to take me on during the evenings or weekends. I need to keep my day job to pay my mortgage.
I have a certificate in Indian Head and also Thai Massage which I need to practice so I have more to offer clients.
Does anyone have any ideas other than flyering & handing out business cards on how I can gain some experience? Ideally I would like to work for or through a spa so I work on different types of people rather just friends and family and gain some confidence.

A couple of ideas for you.....

1. Join your local chamber of commerce and go to the networking lunches and meetings. You will pick up load of clients here stressed business people etc... develop an elevator speech for the meetings and offer to do a 1 minute presentation on what you do.

2. Find out where your local hospice is and do a bit of volunteer work. I did this for a while and got loads of clients from relatives visiting!!

hi firesprite congratulations on passing your exam, i have mine next month, just wondered if you have any old text papers or some advice you could give me on case studies please. cheers really appreciate it

Hi firesprite, i found that once i was qualified i had the same problem as you finding clinets is very difficult alhtough people will tell you otherwise! i found clling on people i had used ofr case studies and offering them and their friends and family free treatments for a period of say 3 days really drummed up business. There is always someone they know who is itching to have a massage but doesn't want to pay out a lot of money to find they dont like it. I found by doing that although my client base grew slowly and i of course had people that came for a free massage then vanished i got a great set of clients and they see it as a reward from me rather than me using them for more clients! limit the freebies to half an hour and im sure your quality will shine through and they will be begging to book another appointment!
