As a veteran MT myself (18 years) along with having given and recieved thousands of sessions of both bodywork, & a variety of energetic healing treatments, I can also certainly speak from many years of experience.
This is not simply a matter of being judgemental. I didn't say that Jin Shin Do wasn't effective, if you will re-read my post.
I was however stating my position, which anyone is certainly entitled to do. I'm not alone in my opinion, as it is the same position of others in the Jin Shin Jyutsu community, in my experience. Also, for those who wish to know further information. Jin Shin Jyutsu was brought back from Japan in 1940 by Mary Burmeister, who did not at the time protect the modality & it's name by registering & copywriting, which unfortunately left it open (legally speaking) to others laying claim to the knowledge of Jin Shin Jyutsu. (This has since been changed, as it is now registered & trade-marked)
This technique was lost in time in the ancient records of Japan, (dating back to about 712AD) when it was re-discovered by Jiro Murai. He gave it the respect it deserved, and kept it in it's original form, through working with it, and doing 50 years of experimenting. He only chose to share his knowledge with 3 students, one who passed away years ago, Haruki Kato (who is also an acupuncturist in Japan, and still practices that & Jin Shin Jyutsu today) and Mary Burmeister, who carried on and spread the knowledge through her dedication to the art through her students & the world.
Jin Shin Jyutsu is taught in 5 day classes, which must be taken 3 times in order for one to be considered a practitioner. In addition there are many special topic classes, (including Self-Help), offered to further refine one's awareness, and ability to address clients and their "projects" as various mental, physical & emotional difficulities, or conditions, are referred to by JSJ. The 23 instructors of the art, go through a long process of training in order to become throughly familiar with all aspects of Jin Shin Jyutsu, and must have a well-established track record of years in practice, before they can apply to become instructors. The classes are given in many locations both here in the States & internationally as well. In addition, there have been ongoing studies done, particularly in cardiac patients, through the Body/Mind department at Morristown Hospital in Morristown, NJ, as well as a sister hospital based in California.
There are also numerous study groups for practitioners, to attend & share both discussion & knowledge with others, and to trade sessions as well. I have been going to my local study group for approx. 7 or 8 years now, attended 4 of the 5 day classes (as there is always something new to learn & share too). Plus I've taken 5, or more, of the special topic classes. It is a method that I will be studying and using for the rest of my life.
Jin Shin Jyutsu has a profound effect on all levels, and can be utilized in nearly any setting for the benefit of one's self, as well as with clients. I've personally used it for 8 years, for myself, my family & friends, as well as with clients. It is from this experience, & training, I feel entitled to speak, with respect & thankfulness for it's impact on my life & the lives of those around me. It has changed my life for the better, and saved many people I am connected with from a great deal of pain & suffering.
Please understand, that any original modality, can certainly be taken and bits & pieces incorporated into something else, and be called by another name. It is preferable when this happens that credit be given to those who it came from. In Ms T's books she does give some mention to Mary Burmeister & Jin Shin Jyutsu, however in other material of hers, she lays claim to having originated the modality of Jin Shin Do. Her claims, and her work should reflect the truth, otherwise IMHO, it shows a certain lack of integrity & ethics.
Think of it like this. Suppose you had spent years of your life researching & gaining understanding of an ancient, & unique therapy and decided to share it with others, only to have a student of yours take that same material, change a few things, and slap a new name on it, then proceed to take the credit for it.
How would you feel about it ?
