ITEC Aromatherapy

Can anyone help? I have just taken a mock ITEC paper and there was a question on tea tree oil. I selected the answer as " can cause skin sensitivity" but was told the answer, according to ITEC was "can cause headache" I have looked through all my books and cannot find this as a contra-action. The Louise Tucker book only lists "can cause skin sensitivity". Help - what should the answer be?
I did A+P ITEC and associated papers and found them to follow the book that was compulsory to the course but the aromatherapy seems to be different.

I think ITEC talk a load of rubbish sometimes. I have seen many of their "Mock Papers" and there are errors in them. You are correct, Tea tree does cause skin sensitivity and your tutor should take this up with ITEC just to clarify that they have in fact made a mistake (however I don't think they will respond). I know this isn't much consolation as it is worrying if ITEC have errors in your actual exam, but hopefully all will be ok.

couldn't agree more jeanpoints and i am in the same boat as you, i had that question on a sample paper too and was really confused

it is also irritating when the syllabus does not exactly match the Louise Tucker book

I was very concerned to hear that ITEC now have multiple choice questions instead of the essay exams that I did, as I don't feel this can reflect the students applied knowledge and also could lead to someone passing by sheer guesswork! Unlikely, I know, but still possible. I recently did a mock exam on A&P from the ITEC website, and despite not having looked at A&P at that level since 2002 when I passed my aromatherapy, I passed, with about 20% of my marks coming from guesses!

Also, when I studied A&P in 2000, as a class we wrote to ITEC pointing out all the mistakes we'd found in the Louise Tucker book, including the tibia and fibula being wrongly labelled, respiration apparently having the diaphragm move the same way for both inspiration AND expiration, and several others, not always apparent to a beginner. We found 10 mistakes in total (our teacher actually set it as our homework to find all the mistakes in the book one week!). These mistakes were rectified in later editions of the book.

Write to ITEC, it may not get anywhere, but if everyone who experiences such problems tells them, then sooner or later they have to take notice of it. In this case, the book might be wrong, or ITEC might be wrong, but they need to know.

I found my ITEC courses a nightmare. When I sat the practical there was a question on an oil I didn't recognise (latin name). I looked it up when I got home and it was Clove........not even on the syllabus. I abviously lost 2 marks for that question. I did tell them about it but I heard nothing.

During the practical the examiner (Kathy ?) asked me a question and I answered Coriander. She actually stood there and said "but Yasmin that is not on the syllabus". I replied "I think you will find it is!". At which point she strutted out of the room only to return and apologise. I was horrified that the examiner didn't even know the syllabus and had to go and look it up.

Disgusting!!!

have you taken your exam yet and if so how did you get on, did you find many decrepancies in the paper? I am taking my exam in September so any advice would be gratefully received
