Is the 50 massage mark special?

My next professional massage will be my 50th! Woohoo.

There's a wellness center here doing a Katrina benefit, looking for volunteers, and only accepting folks who have done 50 massages or more.

At first I was like, "Where'd they pull that number?" It sounded a bit arbitrary. But, I made a connection... I have to admit, my sessions seem to have gotten amazingly better, apparently overnight, in the last few days.

So... what's your experience? Was the 50 massage mark (after graduating) special for you?

I don't know about the 50th professional massage, but I have almost 90 hours of special population massages. I can feel ya about the upward curve of progression in work. I don't know what my massages would be like if I didn't have the opportunity to do special populations or have the 45 hours in Clinic.

And....I can't wait 'till I have my 50th professional client massage.

(One question: if you're working in a clinical position (i.e., chiro's office) where you work in half-hour increments, how does that impact the 50th Rule?

i honestly cannot remember
but that was at least 9 years ago or so...

I don't remember either, but I know that I get better every year!

There is always something to learn and you can always get better.

One instructor we had would say something like:"talk to me when you have worked on 1,000 bodies...there will be a difference"
There is. I can see/feel myself getting better(sometimes just different) all the time. It is sometimes tangible sometimes it's just a feeling...am I making sense?

Funny , i have never considered that question...i have no idea either, but i can certainly tell i'm getting better and i bet just like me you all love to learn new techniques etc..its funny, if i even start to burn out just a little bit and i pull out a massage video i feel all ready to go again! And learning a new technique with a workshop or video I am sooo psyched out to try it !!! Massage is amazing, i just love it!!
