Introducing kitten to an unfriendly cat?

i have a 4yr old tortie. she is a typical tortie who is very territorial and not the most friendliest of cats. i have adopted a 5weeks old kitten to hand rear. The tortie is really not liking the kitten being around. i have tried introducing them slowly and transferring smells but she still hisses and growls at him.
i have tried to calm her down with the use of Zylkene and Feliway but no luck. i am a veterinary nurse so i know what im doing but i need advice from anyone who has been in the same situation or any further help to give.

i have a moggy cat iv had him for years got an 8 week old kitten on sunday yes they have been hissing at each other but they are sniffing at each other we are getting their i let them get on with it as they will end up getting along long enough hope this helped.

Torties, can be 'Madams'!

You can't force the issue.
She may never 'take to him'.

I would keep the kitten away from her and just concentrate on the hand rearing for now.
let her decide if she wants anything to do with him.

I had a tortie some years ago and had other cats afterwards.
She never really took to them, but she would 'tolerate' them.
And they soon learnt to stay out of her way, when she was 'in a mood'!

If you want to keep the kitten, then keep him.
They will both adapt, in time.

Just give her the same attention that you always have done.
