Introducing Boar Guinea pigs?

Recently picked up a boar guinea pig. The original plan was to get two (and i got a cage with two in mind), but when I saw him in the pet shop, he was already on his own.

The staff told me that he was a boar and would not be able to be paired with any other guinea pigs as he was already on his own.

I knew it would be a task to keep him happy on his own, but I thought it best to give it a go, rather than someone else. He seems happy enough, and I give him plenty of attention, but I know he would appreciate a friend.

Has anyone any experience of introducing two boar guinea pigs, not from the same litter? any advice?

I've kept Guinea Pigs for years, Both male and females.
I was always told that you couldn't put two boars together because they would fight.
Believe it or note this just isn't the case, In all my years keeping piggies I have put unrelated boars together (and on one occasion i had four unrelated boars together at the same time) and they will get on, they'll go through the motions of checking each other out and you might get a bit of mounting behaviour for a few days but that is normal.

My advice would be to introduce them in a neutral environment first, maybe on the floor or a large cardboard box and see how they get on, if they aren't compatible believe me you will know it very quickly!

Then you could perhaps rub your new piggie with a small cloth to get his scent and give to your existing piggie to get him acquainted with the new smell and vice a versa - this is the method I use and it hasn't failed me yet

There shouldn't be any reason why you can't give your piggie a new friend.
