Insurance

Hi I am currently volunteering a day at a week at a local Wellbeing Centre in my area and hiring the room from them one day a week. My question is do I need to have insurance, the organisation itself has building and public liability insurance am I covered.

Hi there, public liability will cover you in case someone falls etc whilst in the building, you will need malpractice insurance in case you hurt/damage client during treatment.

Malpractice insurance is important. You should already have this if you belong to a professional body (PB). If you don't have it buy it through a PB. It will be cheaper and better than anything you can source yourself.

You are only covered if your are employed by the 'Company'.

It always pays to have your own insurance in this business and its relatively cheap.

Try this company, i have beeen with them for 4 years and they are very competitive.

I have worked for people in the past who took out insurance cover for their therapists, however as I also practiced in my clinic at home and offered a mobile service I had to get my own public liability insurance cover. It is also a membership requirement of my association.

Better to be safe than sorry, after all it is not a vast sum of money each year.
