Insurance up to to £5 million

I'm considering hiring a room in a local gym chain and they require my public liability insurance to be £5 million.

Can anyone recommend a good provider who won't charge over the odds.

You could try putting Therapy Insurance or Therapist Insurance into a websearch - there are lots of organisations out there who would be able to advise you - I don't know many that will give as much as 5 million coverage, without a hefty premium - surely the gym should cover the main public liability insurance, and you should be covered enough through your own professional indemnity (if you already have it). Seems pointless doubly insuring for public liability. Have you spoken to your present insurer about increasing your cover?

One would assume so - but it seems not. I don't understand it either.

Anyway.......... Balen are good I found out that up to £2.5m it's £111 a year and for £5m it's £141 a year. That's good I think?

public liability and professional indemnity insurances are two entirely different things.
I suspect they're trying a quick one on you; the public liability will stand for the building, not for the individual (I know I didn't have to pay it as a self-employed associate); and is for things like someone tripping over the step; these things are the responsibilty of the management (unless it's your responsibility to polish the floor, with relevant signage; to maintain the state of the building, sweep the leaves off the car park etc etc).
Professional indemnity is covering what you do to people, and is 100% your responsiblity.

BIA is quite right regarding the professional indemnity, but although the public liability is essentially down to the owner of the building (unless you sign a contract saying you are responsible) you will still need public liability in case that your client injures themselves while in your care v- this could be tripping over your equipment for example - Also, some office owners will ask you to sign a contract stating that while you are 'in possession' of a room you are responsible for everything in it, so if a client sat on a chair, it collapsed and they were hurt, the owner would say you were liable as you should have checked that everything that was in your care was safe.

thanks! i would be using an equipped room in the gym. all i would provide is oils, towels and accessories. so i suppose i would be in "possession" of the room while I'm using it and the client could injure themselves whilst using their equipment in the room.

i've decided not to go for working in the gym as my mobile business is taking off and pursuing a whole new set of clientele is just too soon after setting up my mobile business. so i'm not going to need the extra after all.
