ID required to get a massage?

Dropped by a chained place on a wimp, I think they have two locations in town? The ladies are all fully legit, no need to mention the shop's name here. The only surprising that is that they required a check of my driver's license with my completed intake form before I am allowed in. I know certain places are strict with the intake forms but id check is new to me. If insurance is involved, may be an id check is warranted but I am pay fully with cash. Just curious to see if this a one of with this chain or there is some massage association policy change which I am not aware of.

It has been a while, I don't even think the colleges check my id when I was getting student massages.

To be honest, even with a fully legit shop, I am not 100% comfortable for them to check my id. If there are other places which require an id check, I may just avoid them.

I would expect an ID check if using insurance, and if you brand new 1st time client? But if these places start doing I'd checks? Hmm, I not so sure how that would fly?

Its the shops way to protect the massage therapists from aggressive clients.
After a call to report you...... it's easy for a follow-up visit to your home by the police to charge you.

Still not comfortable with that argument, it is like any retail store requiring an id check before entering just in case the person is a shop lifter and the store can report to police easier. Unless required by regulations, there are privacy issues. I would think that if required by regulations, the schools would be the first to do it.

Insurance companies have their own rules with usage to I would provide id with my insurance claim.

Almost all retail stores have cameras and a lot of massage shops use them at the front entrance.
A notable independent on the South East side has a notice on her happy entry door to let you know you are on camera. (I am ok with that) If you are respectful, it gets deleted.

Cameras =/= id check; huge difference under privacy law. All massage places have cameras. My own businesses have hundreds of cameras and I have a full team monitoring them but we don't id anyone who comes through the buildings.

No way any massage place will be getting information from my driver’s permit. I don’t care how legit they look, don’t trust the ultimate ownership behind the scenes. Oh yeah, next, why not just upload my passport information and SIN information on to WeChat and TikTok for the China Communist Party database?

I understand with hotel check ins they need to glance at the driver’s license to ensure that the credit card being used at check in is yours. But for a massage shop collecting data .. a No No. Bet that a complaint filed with the Privacy Commissioner at provincial or federal level would get traction.

Better still. Just smile and take your money somewhere else. There are only another few hundred masseuses graduating in province this year.

Most of these shops that have an intake form have no disciplined information protection programs in place. So even privacy of that information is highly suspect.

I gave ID to a plce, and was told it was just a formality & my privacy was protected. Thirty minutes after I left, the girl phoned me! So I am not ever giving these places my ID again.

Hey can you DM me the place def don’t wanna go there. I’ve never been ID at a place.
