Running is arguably the best form of exercise you can do. It’s free, gets you outside in the fresh air and the ‘runners high’ you get after is such a great feeling.
However, if, like me, you’re a frequent runner in your 30s, the aftermath can be quite painful. Sore knees, shin splints and stress fractures are all fairly common as we get older.
I’ve tried different things to aid the post-run recovery - stretches, a massage gun and protein shakes.
They can definitely be beneficial, but there’s another bit of tech I had to try - a wireless recovery massager.
I’ve seen footballers and athletes use these, and after recently completing a half marathon, I decided to put it to the test, in the hope of not feeling pain for a few days after the 13.1 mile event.
When opening the UREVO Smart Leg Compression Sleeve, the first thing that struck me was the size of it! It literally is two sleeves that cover both legs.
They came in a nice travel bag, so you can massage your legs wherever you go.

The next aspect that stood out to me was both sleeves had a control unit on them.
Intrigued and desperate to know how it all worked, I put the UREVO Smart Leg Compression Sleeves on as soon as I limped home from the half marathon.
The sleeves are easy enough to slip into, and after zipping them up, I pressed the on button on each panel.
There is a UREVO app which I found incredibly helpful - it connects to the sleeves and offers various advice, from how long to use it after running, to an analysis after the massage is complete.
The first use was quite an experience - it was a similar feeling to having your blood pressure taken, a sleeve wrapping around you and pressing, which was to be expected - it is a massage tool after all. It has different pressure and heat settings depending on your needs.
I opted to go for the marathon recovery setting, which was a 25-minute massager at the highest pressure (you can turn the pressure down to your liking).
Obviously, you need to be lying down, or at least have your legs flat for this to work, so I had it operating whilst watching TV. It did feel pretty satisfying and I was blown away how it worked, even if it did feel pretty tight in some areas like the quads and calves!

After the massage, the app provided an analysis of which areas the sleeves worked on etc. There are plenty of options on the app still to be explored. You can use the sleeves as a warm up, and, as the description reads: "With six therapy modes, eight pressure settings and three heat levels, it can give a rich and intelligent massage scene after intense sessions in the gym, or after sport.
"The Matrix Airbag design has five zones that can locate and deliver precise physical therapy for a full and targeted massage providing relief similar to that of a professional physiotherapy session. With an AI smart massage to the recommended optimal massage parameters, it doubles efficiency."
The battery life seems decent, although I did notice it takes quite a while to recharge it, and, you need to charge both sleeves. So if you're using it most days, be prepared to be leaving the sleeves on charge for several hours.
Overall, I found the UREVO Smart Leg Compression Sleeve very satisfying. I definitely noticed the difference compared to previous half marathons I have run and had no such massage after (I couldn't walk for days).
Yes, I did still ache after using the sleeves, but I could definitely tell my legs had been massaged and I felt relaxed.
I'd go as far as to say the UREVO Smart Leg Compression Sleeves are a must for any runner. I can't imagine not using it after a long run.
