How to get smell of stale oil out of towels

I've got some perfectly decent towels which over time have absorbed a lot of oil. I've boil washed them but to no avail. Once dry they still smell of stale oil.

Anyone know of any remedies use to strip the oil out of the towels? I was thinking of maybe soaking towels in vinegar and then washing them?

I really don't want to have to throw them away as there is nothing wrong with the way they look.

Any ideas gratefully received.

I would have thought that leaving your towels to soak in biological detergent would have done the trick, as the enzymes 'digest' organic stuff but, as far as I'm concerned, the best way to get rid of any sort of grease is soda. You can buy bottles of 'liquid soda crystals' in places like Wilkinson's and sometimes in Robert Dyas or other hardware type shops - they don't seem to be in the supermarkets anymore. They come in a white plastic bottle with a blue top and label. Otherwise, you can buy a packet of soda crystals and make your own solution. As it will say on the label: "Avoid prolonged contact with skin" - i.e. wear rubber gloves.

Fractionated coconut oil is easier to wash out than other oils - you can also add a few drops of eucalyptus essentil oil to the fabric conditioner compartment for fresher smelling towels and hang outisde to dry whenever possible (weather permitting!)

I found the answer from one of the replies on my thread and that was napisan

certainly worked for me - cant smell it on my towels at all now
