How do aromatherapists?

Hi everyone, I was wondering how aromatherapists sterilise their glass bottles. I don't use oils but flower essences, and I need to now sterilise them before re-using them. The bottles I use have a glass pipette and rubber top which will also need to be sterilised somehow.

Just a thought hun, have you even thought of using a steam stiriliser, the sort you buy for babies bottles.

I used the Avent one on my son's bottles and it only took 10 minutes to stirilise them all, there is loads of room in one and you could even pick up a second hand one very cheep...try e-bay.

I use a steam seriliser too. But it is a microwave one, as long as the bottles are blass they are fine. Not tried plastic incase they melt.

Thank you Amanda and Angel for your replies. I think I'm going to place the bottles on a food steamer I have, which sits on top of a pan of water, as the water boils, the steam will clean the bottles. I'm sure that will be as effective as buying a machine, can't afford one right now. That way I can also put the pipettes in with the rubber tops, and nothing will melt I hope!

I use good old fashioned Milton and rinse them with cooled boiled water. I used to have a steam steriliser when the boys were babies but it broke and I was too tight to replace it just for a few little bottles and jars.

I do both aromatherapy and flower essences and so sterilise lots of bottles.

On the Bach course this was discussed and they advised simply boiling them in distilled water for 15 mins - The dropper tops can be safely taken apart - the screw top slides off down the pipette and the rubber dropper just rolls off the other end so you just boil the glass parts.

In the end I used my food steamer, and it worked wonderfully. Even the labels peeled off and I also steamed the plastic tops and I am pleased to say they survived, so excellent news as it didn't cost me a penny.

I am not sure if the plastic dropers will resist, but a pressure cooker is great for sterilising. Temperature goes higher than steaming. You could try one wrapped is foil to see what happens. If it melts, the foil will prevent melted plastic everywhere?
