Does anyone have any experience using these??
First time I saw them being used was on this past weeks survivor and they were getting massaged by these little "bundles".

These will be the buzz word item this coming year - lots of spas will be adding them to the menu.

Dermalogica are introducing them into their professional spa product range, as are Sothys, which means Pevonia won't be far behind. The Sothys one is being promoted as a hot stone treatment because they put a stone in the bundle to keep them warmer for longer. One company tried introducing them in to the US market a while ago -called them maha bandles (bundle with a handle ) http://www.touchamerica.com/ developed it and has links to their web site, but most of the website doesn't work, it didn't seem to last long, though looking around on the web, there seems to be a resurgence. I am sure with the Dermalogia push, it will suddenly be THE treatment for 2007.

I think they're traditionally used in southern style Thai massage following the meridians. There are also the Ayurvedic ones where they are opened up and rubbed over the body after they've been used on the body. the Thai ones are traditionally used on the next client after reheating them.

I did not take a class. If I remember correctly, I got my information from Pierce Salguero's book on Thai massage. All of his books are excellent!

He has a number of books, do you remember which one in particular?

Also, I noticed on your site, you only charge $5 extra for a 60 minute hot stem massage compared to your regular 60 minute session. How much do these stems cost you to make? I have seen others charge a lot more for this type of massage when compared to a 'regular' massage of the same length of time.

I'll go through the books and see which one it was. I don't recall there being an exact protocol, but I use them along the marma points and much like you would hot stones. It cost me about $20 for the herbs, and maybe $5 for the muslin cloth and twine. I buy the herbs from the Naked Mango website, and I can make approximately 6 small stems. It looks like the pricing has gone up a bit since my last purchase.

Regarding how I priced it... I just priced it at cost. The only places I saw using it were spas, and I just didn't feel comfortable charging what they charge. Plus, I was testing the waters to see how well it would be received. There's not really been a great demand for it in my practice. It doesn't add any additional time to the massage and saves me some work (minus preparation and cleanup).

http://www.nervetouch.com/ has a video and book - most of the video and book is about Thai massage, but the last 10min or so of the video goes over how to use compresses (building a bit on what the massage part of the video shows) , the book covers more instructions on how to make them, ingredients and a bit on how to use them. The book is a spiral bound book rather than a proper book, if that makes sense.
