Hospice work

I have mentioned in other post how i'm still trying to figure out which school to attend. I know the area I want to work in(Hospice) but am confused as to what I should look for in a school that would help get me in the right direction.

Would it be worth the effort to go after an associates degree in this case? I'm kinda lost on this, but it is what I would like to do. Any suggestions are alway's appreciated.

The school I attended has a requirement that you much perform 50 hours of community outreach (20 with special events - wellness days, post or pre-sports activity, etc.) (30 with at least one special population - hospice, people living with AIDS, hospital, nursing home, etc.). I don't know, but I'd say your best bet would be to see if the school(s) you are interested in attending offers contacts at organizations (or a willingness to act as an administrative head for paperwork, insurance, etc.). My school was one of the first in the nation to do this but this practice has become more and more popular for their students.

Good luck. It's a very worthwhile opportunity to work with community organizations - not just for the recipients (who will love the work) but yourself as well (the experience is invaluable).

i went to school with a gal who was a hospice worker~ non-medical, who went to massage school after being trained in theraputic touch. she was in a basic massage course (500 hours) with no specialty modality (sports, core, or shiatzu). she seemed interested in reiki to further help those patients who could not receive hands-on work.
i have not seen her since graduation so i don't know where she went with it.
