Help Please........

Hi every one out there , I have recently finished my Holistic Massage course, now I want to practice I have Insurance from Embodyforyou,
I found a nice small room in oneoptician shope now do i need to get insurance for that placae , or get permission from council or should i just go put my table up and start giving massage, can any one tell me what are the things need to set up a business.

Hi Khem[/align]Welcome to the forum.[/align][/align]If you live in London then they have a bylaw that states you must register with the council or something along those lines, I am sure some London therapist will be able to give you the current rulings if you live there.[/align][/align]If not then you do not have a problem, your professional indemnity insurance should cover you to work anywhere but it is always worth a phone call to make sure.[/align][/align]You need to let the taxman know you are going self employed, it is not worth setting up a business account at your bank unless things take of in a big way, just keep it simple, put some posters in the local shop windows, try a special introductory offer in your local paper ( half price for the first month ) to generate some interest etc, and away you go [/align]

Just following on from what Paul has said regarding insurance, always make sure that you are covered for public liability, as this will cover you if a client injures themselves and blames you for the damage.
Normally this is covered with most professional indemnity policies but always worth checking it out.

Also if you are renting a room you need to know whether the people you rent from expect you to be liable for the room and its contents while you are in possession of it.

This means that (for example) if they have a chair in the room that you let clients sit on and it breaks, you are liable to be cliamed against even though it isn't actually your chair!

Don't let me scare you as all you need to do is double check your contract to see who is liable for the room and that way if you are, then you just check the equipment provided by the owner before using anything.
